jeff did you use a two hook rig or only one?  could be why you were missing hits.

I had four strikes that went without releasing the downrigger. I was using a hoochi on one and a uncle larry spinner one the other; both had double hooks. I've never missed more kokes than caught.

Jeff, not sure if your using your bass rod for the kokes, but if you are you must use the rubber snubbers. BTW, I love that shot of your F/F with the fish schooled up.
If I go on saturday, I think I'm going to launch at the 49 bridge. The guys there caught alot of fish and with the yak you can launch right there.

I was using a medium light 7' rod. It's very sensitive and very springy.

I had to turn the fish alarm because when I went past the schools it gave me a headache lol

Sorry, I was talking about the highway 49 bridge. The old 49 went through the canyon and now its a launch ramp; for car toppers and yaks. You can't drive all the way to the water. You do need wheels to lauch, but its right in the middle of the action.

Jeff    I fished Melones today (non yak) for limits of small Kokes. 38-45 ft. with a flasher and the best lure seemed to be a small pink sockeye slammer tipped with a piece of shoepeg corn. You can scent the corn but we didn't today. On the water at 8 am and off at 12. speed 1.5 and the big school of fish between the dam and spillway were still there. In a yak I'd think the 49 bridge would be a good option. Get a really really limber rod and be easy when pulling on them. They have really soft lips.

Nope used my 7' medium-heavy Ugly Stick with my Okuma baitcaster reel for a downrigger :smt004

I was using a 1 lb ball but couldn't mark it past 15' on the fishfinder even with 100 percent sensitivity. So I paddled to 28 feet of water dropped my weight and when it hit bottom then tied a small loop in the braided line. So when I let the make-dhift downrigger out I stopped at the loop. I tried feet past each direction of the loop for no luck.
