What blue lakes were you at? If its the one by Mendo they stopped planting there. Still in effect I believe. Another smart move by the radical enviros.

Yes mendo blue lakes...the narrows and a few other biz's kicked in 5k for 2000 lbls of fish... and planted a week ago...there's some big ass fish in there...  u pay $25.00 to enter each month, and if u catch a tagged fish, its worth a $1000.00... i was told there are 3 tagged 18lbs....yea baby!!!

Saw lots of fish popping out of the water...i guess i should of went "catching" not "fishing" :smt001

I can't wait to give blue lakes a try from the yak.  I haven't fished there in years.

After a few more surveys it was found that the planting ban was without real merit.
DFG was unable to plant there until way late in the season so the locals stepped up.

Im curious as to where you were able to launch on the lower of the 2 lakes?
I was also under the impression that there were no bows in there. I guess a few may have slipped down the creek but I had always believed they would be quick and easy victims for the bucketmouth population.
interesting info.

There still there then... hey tom if u give me a date/time...my parents have access to locked gate right nxt to pine acres, i wheel my yak down the block to fish...

that being said...i've fished 4 times there with no luck...i've heard my brother say i can catch fish from a mud hole... :smt001 I'm thinking the lower might have access to another gate for mud lake...... my dive partner just got a yak today so the coast is calling..... :smt003 but let me know and we could hookup...
tight lines...

We might be talking about different Blue lakes.  I was thinking about the Blue lakes near Caples (Alpine county I think).  Lower Blue lake is one of the few High Sierra lakes with lakefront camping, so I launched from my campsite.

There are no bucketmouths in the lower Blue lake I was referring to (at least to my knowledge).  The only think that eats the bows up there are other trout and a pair of bald eagles.

I am sorry if I caused any confusion.

I fished both of them last year (the high sierra blue lakes).  Lower had non-stop action, but mostly 12-14in planters. Upper blue had less action, but more holdovers.

I remember back in the early 90's scopeing those lakes out with a buddy...scrambling over some bolders in the rain, and my feet slipped straight out in front of me with a 6ft drop to the ground on my tailbone :smt009...knocked the wind out of me...could hardly walk :smt010...still feel it to this day...beautiful country...... :smt004

so the lower was better than the upper...it was the reverse when we fished it...

tight lines....

easy mistake ATF.  I was hoping that you had found access to the lower lake.
Both of these lakes are actually in Lake county if that helps with any further confusion.
The upper is clear, deep and spring fed. The lower is stained, and Im not positive, but it may dump into scotts creek that then runs into Rodmans slough.

Sledge
are you reffering to the turnout along HWY 20 for the lower lake access?
that one would be a challenging launch for me and Id need a rope system to get back up without damaging my boat or my body. I think the belly boaters use that access.
If you dont mind me tagging along, Id be interested if you have gate access and plan on fishing the lower.
Ive spent ALOT of time on the upper as its the closest good water to cool off in and it holds a few fish.
Its a usual stop when Team Bridgeport's in town.
Now the tribute.

Yeah Hydrospider i haven't put in there before but it looked like a beater yak could make it... :smt003

We did a bunch of cat work on the upper end of the lower lake...everyone around there calls it "mud lake" because of the color...just give me a heads up and game on...

your right about Scott's vly/rodmans slough...been talkin to Travis @ Kmart sporting goods section in lakeport, him and his dad fish rodmans everynite and hammer huge cats and big LMB with bobber/minnow/lantern...was @ the "Tackle it" shop in lake port getting some gear and i guy was saying bite is hot right now on Rodmans slough....

I started sorta backass words...bought my yak 2 seasons ago and put in on the ocean and learned that way... :smt003 I've only fished 4 times on fresh water, that being the upper blue on my yak... beats the hell out of float tubing.... :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 Much prefer Ocean RF

Nice pics BTW  that water is nice and cold...don't have a camera that works...got to get one for my posts...
