I know how you feel.  I was let go last spring after several years with a great company, we went from 50 people to 12.  After 4 months of fishing and playing with my son, I landed an even better job.  Things are tough out there, but it is turning around.  On the brightside, this weekend is the trout opener, with rockfish right around the corner!  Time to fish!

All of the websites I found so far have the standard templates!  I would recommended the EDD resource (link provided below), they have free courses on resume, cover letter, job interview, etc...

You could post it here, and we can try and help you finalize it Troy!  When ever I rework my resume, I take a look at as many of my friends resumes as I can and have them give advice on mine.  Recruiters are the best resource for resume fine tuning, as they look at them all day long.

Many tips are things like adding keywords from posted job descriptions inside your resume, so that you can be matched in a Resumix or HR databases on queries for open positions.  I still get calls to this day from companies I applied at because of this.

One more website that I highly recommended.  This website could help us when we're looking for friends, classmates, co-workers in the past, or trying to get a job, since Human Resources at many companies use it to see who your professional and personal references are. It's like Facebook website but it's for professionals mostly.  It's free and only take 5 minutesto get started, you can always update your profile anytime later. See below example of my profile:

http://www.linkedin.com/in/sonnytnguyen

Good summary of what LinkedIn website is:  http://computer.howstuffworks.com/linkedin5.htm

More advice:  http://www.squidoo.com/effectivelinkedin

The linkedin.com guide page:  http://learn.linkedin.com/

When you set up a profile, would advise adding a small picture of you at about 200 pixels width/height. That way friends and classmates from the further past can more easily recall who you are.

Don't know about many of you but after a full days messing around with building a resume I need a FEW beers
 :beer1
Trying to remember EVERYthing I've done, accomplished over the last 9yrs is not easy!  However I've been able to generate something that my boss ( Actually a real cool guy) is going to workover tonight & tomorrow with his manager (Also present at Ax time) and when there happy after whatever back & forths need to take place, he'll then forward the completed resume off to one of our customer sites that's waiting for it!  I'm only slightly excited about this fact.  This site has purchased a tool from us and I've worked on this particular toolset now for 7+yrs.  They have no (Zero) experience in this kind of toolset so I hope to be a "Shoe-in" for the spot they have open.
Time will tell.  Then I'll tell you......

Good luck to you Troy. I hope you land that position and hopefully make more
money. Same here at work for me. We are all looking at each other to see who
is going to be laid off work next. Not a good feeling at all. Stay positive bro.

:smt012 My coworker & friend said that when theytold him of my demise,  that they were very upset about it, that there "hands were tied" the decision came from above.  So that narrowed the reason for me, down  to two possibilities, My pay, or a negative word from our Japanese Eng. back to Japan.  After talkking with my friend about this, he mentioned that our Japanese Eng was shocked and surprised, so I don't think he really had anything to remotely to do with it, that leaves the pay!  It certainly isn't my experience, I've got 7yrs of working on one particular toolset, over another FSE who has very little exposure to the tool. (He's been employed about a longer than me though.)  Some beancounter compared salaries, and in my mind, my name came up on top.   :smt009
Nada I can do about it now :smt013
Dats my story and I'm stiking to it!
I do feel for my coworker now, and the FSE's in Dallas as they'll now have to cover what I was doing, and for the peeps in Dallas they'll have to deal with plane flights, room reservations travel expense.  When all this could have been avoided by letting the less experienced guy go! Oh well.

Troy, don't spend too much time trying to figure out how they decided who to let go. Chances are, it will never make sense. As you said, a beancounter probably looked at salaries & no one bothered to weigh all the associated costs of who they cut.

I'm watching a former employer crash & burn at the moment because of one bad decision after another - in this case, one factor being cronyism, in which they keep high-salaried buddies in mgmt while hacking away at lower-paid but key workers who actually perform the real bulk of their business. They're not just shooting themselves in the feet, they're chopping them off!

Best thing to do is keep your head up, get that resume updated & out there (as you're doing) & move forward. Good luck - it sounds like you'll be up & running and in an even better situation before too long.
