1)Does anyone know where to get a 10 AA battery holder in the south bay? San Jose--Santa Clara Area?
2)Will the 10 AA batteries work for a Rule 360 GPH Bilge pump, set up for live well, and how long will they last?

Thanks,

Keith

If your not in any hurry, your best bet is to order online.  Try this.

I have no idea about it running your bilge pump.  If you've got significant water in the hull, most people just use something like this to bail it out.  Otherwise, if it's only a little water, this should suffice.

Don't think it will be enough to run your live well.

$14 for a sponge?!?! You got to be kidding me.
I ordered th 10AA battery holder from Thomas too but instead of the wire leads it has a connector on the outside that looks the same as a 9V battery. Very convenient.

Hi Keith,

I don't know anything about live wells, but when holding even the most sensitive fish on our farm we don't try to replace the water in the tank any faster than at a rate of about 3 times the tank volume per hour. We also run aeration, so you might have to bump that up a bit, but I doubt it.

If that would be true for a live well also, and that tank was maybe 5(??) gals, you would want to pump at about 15gph, and even that much may not be necessary.

For a motor like that, you might want to consider a battery used in UPSs and home alarm systems. Pretty cheap (~$16 + shipping) and about 7(??) amp hours, but it weighs about 5 pounds.

Agree with dilbeck pump and sponge (although you can get a cheap one sponge at home depot or an auto parts store). As for the holder. I looked high an low in the south bay as well. No dice at Radio Shack or Frys. So I went with an 8 cell + a 2 cell (from Radio Shack). It worked fine. I recently got the small 12v 'brick' and I haven't regretted it one bit. If you plan on running a bilge pump for a live well you'll want the brick. Cabelas carries it with a charger for $20. You could then run your pump and FF all with one power source.

Hey there!  I have one I could spare if you need in a hurry.  Just order me another one to replace it from the link Michale gave ;)  I live in the south sj area.  PM me if you want it!

I wasn't suggesting Keith purchase from the links, I just wanted to include a picture so he could have a visual.

I've really liked using the 10XAA battery setup since it is soooo nice and light.  But I have spent WAY more on my charging setup than the 30$ for that 12V Cabelas setup.  Considering going with this setup for my new boat...

Mine also had the 9-volt connectors and I'd agree, it is definitely a convenience.  It allows me to separate the holder from the case if need be.

It seems that there is no rhyme or reason as to what kind of 10-cell holder Thomas Distributing will have on stock at any given time.  :smt102

Fry's on Brokaw, near 880 has em.  Or did.

Another option is to solder up your own 10-cell battery packs, like radio controlled cars use.  Makes charging snap.

I looked for 10-cell holders (about two years ago) all over the south bay w/o luck.  Ended up going to an electronics store on the Peninsula...don't remember the name.  Probably cost me more in gas that the holder itself (they were cheap).  Try Googling "electronic supplies +bay area" (or similar) and then let your telephone do the work for you.

Small bilge pumps will need at least a 5-7 amp. hr. battery for a day if you run it in bursts. The new school is only 2-2.7 amp hr.(2000mAh-2700mAh AA cells)

Rechargeable battery packs are down and dirty easy if you can find the right voltage and amp hr size.

The lithium ion packs are starting to come down in price and will be the next hot set up.There is a 6.4amp hr. LiFePo plastic cased battery that weighs less than 1.5 lbs!

Check that place for the 10 AA cell holder.

You can also get a 10cell NiMH in various cell sizes/capacities and an automatic charger from www.batteryspace.com

If you want to run a rule 360 for live bait well, a 6v battery is commonly used so it will run slower.  You can purchase a 6v 10ah (five D-size cells) from the above and it will charge from the same charger to charge your 12v NiMH if you choose the right one.

NiMH costs considerably more than sealed lead acid batteries, but you will get more power density.
