Justin,
always a treat when you stop by and share your adventures. We met at Elk last year, and the images of your underwater films still run through my mind... Great stuff as always. I even did some research on improving my clearing techniques. Hopefully this year I can dive more comfortably at greater depths. I was listening intently to you during our conversations. Your photography skills match your diving skills.  :thumleft: As good as any I've seen in any wildlife mags. Thanks for sharing. For those who don't know Justin, this young man can dive like no ones business!!   Justin, Don't be such a stranger... :smt002
P.S. those shots of the scallops really show how well they camo with their surroundings. As FH said, very educational.

I am glad you guys like the pictures and video.  I will start a new thread with some lingcod pictures from last month.

I am using a point and shoot digital camera, a Panasonic FX-07 with a built in wide angle lens in a Panasonic housing.  The pictures I posted were taken in macro mode with the flash on.  I don't have a strobe yet, but I really want one.  I run all my photos through photoshop to color correct them.  Usually it only takes the "auto levels" button to get the color right.  It is OK to down load them, but they are smaller files.  If you want a higher resolution file PM me.

Cabezon love that coraline algae in that picture.  When I see a shallow bed of coraline algae in 8-10 feet of water I will cruse over it looking for the pattern of their pectoral fin rays.  SBD has a cabezon spot just like this.

The scallops in that picture were about 10 feet deep.  They were in a 55 gal drum sized hole that had been scoured down into the top of a pinnacle.  I have seen them in places like that before.  That's why I took a look there.  I took the biggest out of that group and found 3 more close by in a crack on the face of the pinnacle.  The crack was about 35 feet deep.

Oh my, you're the guy that inspired me to go sign up for the Free Diving class at Wallin's. I watched all your videos in youtube over and over. Great work! Appreciate them very much!

Amazing footage, wow.

Justin or anyone else:  On the rockfish spearing video, what were those things tethered to his wrist?  Extra weight?

Totally cool

It is a flashlight for looking in holes that might have a lingcod.

Let us know how that class is.  I almost took the wallins class a few years ago, but I got talked into going to a class in La Paz instead.  The class I took was really fun, but it was expensive enough that it turned into my one big trip for the year.  The instructor at the class I took had seen the spearfishing video "blue" and he was impressed with David Laird's freediving style.  David Laird teaches the wallins class.  Our instructor said it looked like David Laird had studied in Italy with the apnea academy.
