Great report! If you walk around at night there in the summer with a portable black light, you can see a big scorpion every 5 feet out in the open, its pretty cool. Mooch would love it.

NC,
Ten pound trout are tough to come by...as a general rule... but as you pay your dues your odds and skill will go up and you'll land your share of better than "cute fish".... Absolutely Great Post...!

From what I hear, Mooch is a trout fishing expert.  Also though, I've seen some of BrianG's reports and he's slammed some mountain lake trouts also.  I think I see a trout fishing derby on the horizon, maybe at New Melones?  :smt062 I honestly have come to the point of boredom with the little trout bastards so no one will catch me fishing the freshwater anytime soon.  Nice Report, really nicely done. :salut:  JTF

:wav: Very nicely done Newchick! Your sense of humor certainly is reflected in your writing. Great photo pictorial too. I'm so guilty of bringing the camera and failing to use it enough... very entertaining post. I loved your confession,  pretending not to hear, not wanting to go take a picture. Now THAT'S just like a guy... :smt044 shows you really want to catch some, and not just going along... nuthin' wrong with a little compitition... :smt002

This is the second time he's confessed to not really knowing what he's doing.... usually in the form of "I really don't know anything about bass fishing... I'm just guessing"..... and at Pyramid... "I really have no idea, just try different things"

I'm taking applications for new guides.  Should I make a requirement within top 5 AOTY?   :smt044   :smt002

Ernie,

Used U 20 Flatfish - tried different colors/patterns - heard red was a hot color - produced no nibbles.  Tried a purple woolly bugger fly as well.

Were we way off base?

Norman Harry, chairman of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe for
some Intel on Fishing and local Tribal events that you could

I can no longer sit by and let this post go unanswered!

Michelle was insistant that she was going to catch the first, biggest and last fish of the trip! In good spirits I took her lure shopping for some spoons and U20s. Due to my busy work week I wasn't able to finish loading my truck Friday night as I was just wiped out tired. Got on the road in a reasonable time but the bus crash had 80 closed both directions causing a major delay. We get to the lake after what seems like forever.

I have Michelle suit up in to an old pair of neopreme waders and launch the kayaks. I though she wasn't looking but she caught me as I was putting on the lure named 'KILLER'. A particular u20. We start trolling around with a 1 oz banana weight and u20's.  Using Catera downrigger rods and 2600/5600 abu reels.  We managed about 3 hours of fishing the first day. I got a total of 4 hook ups and two to the boat. The fish were disappointing in their fight. Michelle did a good job moving the maurader around in the light breeze but it was too big for her to effectively troll. The big advantage of the big boat was that she stayed dry and warm.

That evening Michelle hit the store and stocked up on all thing flashy lures. I did some some fish  caught by the ladder fishers. I set her up with a red headed, white bellied, patterned flatfish which was the hot lure based on reports on the the radio. I also tied a second rig up for her to drift with a spin bubble and purple wooley bugger.

Day 2. The wind was blowing 15 - 20. Michelle was a bit nervous about going out in to the wind and chop. I paddled the maurauder out and started goofing around all the while I was listening to pearl harbor at the docks. She came out and trolled for a bit and then drift her fly around to no avail.

She was a great sport and I promised her a rematch. After all I did get the first, last and biggest fish.  :smt008

Sweet, I'm in! :smt003   Although don't know how the wife, or Brian for that matter, would feel about the situation.  And of course, my position in the standings will soon change as the salt season opens up.

In all seriousness, great report.  Hope to read more in the future.

I am not bragging that she was paddling a maurader in the wind and did awesome....she is a future threat! Michelle is looking for a cobra escape in which she will be unstoppable. I might even have to get up early to fish with her.  :smt044
