Great video, and an awsome code to live by!  I had to pull an Ab out of the freezer after watching you cook up those strips!

I agree with FisHunter, the instructional video has taken it to a whole new level.

Are the night fish good eating?  I have seen folks filling buckets up at night, but never tried them.

Thanks, All, for the kindness.   :smt007

those of us that have been free diving and tank diving have been practicing self rescue for years.

Word, Allen - that's why I've always thought of the term "self rescue" as being a little overboard...  uh, no pun intended, but it's pretty funny!   :smt005

could you send me a handful of that sand?

No - you'll have to show up in Humboldt and fish with me first.   :smt002

I've never eaten night fish, just smelt, or day fish.  We used to cook them on a stick right over the beach fire.  When they're done you just squeeze them gently up the belly/spine, pull the tail off, turn the head and pull out all the bones and guts.  Long long ago...   :smt001

I'll bet the night fish are very tasty, Matt.  Maybe Allen will get his wish and we'll get to check out a run of them at the Cove.

And regarding instructional videos, I've been wanting to throw in some info like that for a long time, and positive responses I've gotten mean I'll be working harder to produce similar material.  Thanks for the feedback.   :smt001

It's funny, John, I had a theme going in my commentary about the rule that you can't shuck an ab unless it's for "immediate consumption".  I was going to be a real smart-ass and upload a video that makes fun of the fact that the rule would require me to throw away any leftovers...  but then we ate the whole ab!   :smt005

Other commentary that only made it to the cutting room floor was a "thank you" to DFG for making the tags so much easier to use this year - they really are much better.

That reminds me of my older brother.  He used to scuba dive quite often and he and his girlfriend would harvest scallops at 20-40' at the North Jetty and eat them at the bottom!  It always sounded like a good way to choke to death...  Anyway, his own brand of Abking craziness probably influenced mine.   :smt003

Dude!  I can't wait til my kids are old enough to enjoy the beauty and wonder of a "forage for your supper day"!!!  That's an awesome experience to have in the memory banks, Gue - hold onto that one.   :smt001

Great video, Eric! I have HUGE respect for and understanding of the effort and time it takes to set up each shot, walk or swim through frame, go back and grab the camera, and set up for the next shot. I loved the suiting up sequence.

Shooting in and around water is notoriously difficult (that's why Jaws was such a nightmare to film) - but you have definitely brought the fishing report to a new standard of effort and excellence.

And cooking in the sand without (from what I could tell) getting sand in the food! Well done. You should sell tickets.

Oh, any embarrassing out takes you're not showing us?

May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Proud to say there was NO sand in the grub (I'd only had 2 beers   :smt005).

Great question!  There's so much crap on my cutting room floor that someday it'll probably be worth something!    :smt044  My step-mother accompanied me yesterday and she was cracking up in the background.  I had to explain this to her:  one of the real beauties of creating these videos is the process of becoming quite comfortable being an ass for the camera because it's all about the editing.   :smt002  So, to answer your question, I have lots of embarassing footage, but not where I'm screwing anything up, just me being me!   :smt001

The Video KING has done it once again!!!  Man... I am so jealous!!!  I've never even tried abalone yet alone fried it right on the beach after pounding it thin with my favorite IPA!  I think we should start sponsoring AK's adventures, cause they are SO FREEEEKING AWESOME!!!

AK, I'm bringing you some special brews for GMSIII!

Great video and the shore lunch looks sweet! I have to admit I've never tried abalone :smt010 maybe at GS III I will get the chance :smt004 I like how you multi-task that pale ale bottle :smt002

And speaking of shell fish, the family and I are going back to Maine (my wife is from there) in July. Every time we go back it means all you can eat Lobster :smt007 and Clam :smt007 feast as well as a Bluegrass Festival :smt004

Funny you were practicing self rescue yesterday, I was doing the same (6 times) in my new wet suit at Whiskeytown Lake (54 degree water temp.) in preparation for GS III. No problems getting back on the Yak and the wet suit works great :smt003  I know it's not the same as on a choppy ocean but this ocean newbie will be prepared and equipped as well as possible!

Have you made a decision on what FF to buy?

Thanks again for the Video/Lesson, keep them coming!

Thanks, Bro!  I've already been thinking about all the willpower I'll need to keep from being completely looped by dinnertime each day.   :smt003

Thanks, Tad, and WTG on practicing the self rescues in your new ocean gear.  I'm glad you asked for the board's opinion on going in the ocean with waders vs wetsuit and that you took action.  You won't be sorry.   :smt001

I haven't decided on the fishfinder - I guess I'd better just get it done.  There's a 50/50 chance I'll show up at GSIII w/o one.  I'm still undecided I guess.

Another awesome video Eric. I am so jealous of your backyard. Thanks for sharing
and teasing us with that freshly caught abalone of yours. Will there be any
sample of that at GMSIII?
