Great read PJ. Enjoyed the story very much. Sometimes you had me bewildered in the "wtf is he smoking" moments of the story.

Jalama is a beautiful and dangerous area. Kayaked it twice and had me shaking both times.

Incredible!!!!  By far one of the best fishing stories I've read in a long time.  Thanks for sharing.
Good luck and tight lines.

What no thresher? :-) Sweet report. Only a few more weeks and the commandos will ride again and I will be free from fresh water purgatory. A couple of questions... There used be a great burger place in Jalama, is it still there?

How did Greg like the Trident in the surf?

BTW - I almost drowned at Jalama back in the 70's. Was surfing and got caught in an undertow.  Luckily I was wearing a full wetsuit. :-)

Thanks for the kind words everyone, glad you enjoyed it.  That area is an incredible part of the coast, highly inaccessible due to many conditions, kind of helps keep it pristine.

Scott, no Threshers but between Greg & I we're stockpiling a mini arsenal of Rapala CD-14's.  That & I purchased a 08 Prowler so I can haul a Thresher up on deck this season.  I'm also going with a slightly heavier rod, reel & line.

Greg loves his new boat, he got a great deal.  As far as the surf goes that was probably the most difficult launch I've ever done so I would say it's a little hard to judge.  Looking forward to this year big time.  It seems as though we never had any surf big enough to take out all the kelp, so the kelp beds are very thick for this time of year!!!  That could be a good sign.

Jalama burgers are still there & still great.  Actually the old-time concessionaire, Don, who'd been there for decades came back.  The thing about that place is that you have to go in the late fall to early spring or you'll be arm-to-arm with people.  You get some of those beautiful winter days & it's just spectacular!!!  It'd be real easy to buy a trailer & become camp host there.

Thanks,
PJ
