Thanks Eric!  I tell you what, even though we didn't catch squat, it was a great learning curve.  Hopefully the weather will hold again for next Saturday so we can be right back at it.
OP is so close to the house it ain't funny so it is a great place for us.

Haha mooch, i know.  that picture was only taken after the hali was beaten to kingdom come.  like i said in my report, earlier the thing came to life and tried to flap its chompers into my nether regions.

I want to congratulate you on your halibut. That is a real nice fish. Looked like a magnificent day on the water with friends and calm flat conditions. Great photos. Tell your brother to borrow a rod so he can be like you. :smt003

Sean, It was 8-12 feet. I actually only used 4-6 oz. Once we got a little tide/current I switched to drifting. The water was so shallow there was a ton of plant growth on the bottom so trolling was a pain.

sean, i was using 10oz and the water was about 10 - 12 foot deep where I was trolling.

i use heavy sinkers when trolling because i want them to bang the bottom hard and kick up mud and debris to attract the halis.  i find that if the sinker is too light then it is too far behind the boat and it tends to drag on me and lose the sensitivity i need to ensure it is "bouncing" properly.
