I always guesstimated steelhead weight by 30" is 10# and each additional inch is another #.

Kudos to Allen for nailing one in an otherwise bleak season..... :thumleft:
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Made my  way to the launch in the wee hours of the morning and set off at first light. The water is still a bit fast but  the color is a beautiful steelie green, at least on the upper part of the run. Drifted my favorite bait through a few holes and at a mile or so south of the 101 bridge the tap tap of the bottom went still ....set the hook!...felt the head shake and it was fish on! I worked the kayak over tom the shallows and dropped anchor. First she jumped...then she dove and held the bottom....then back up for some nasty rolls and twists and with every move I thought she would be a gonner. Finally I coaxed the girl into the net and smothered it in the kayak. Originally I was going to release any  fish that I might catch but those plans went out the window somewhere during the fight. I do feel a bit of remorse now that things are over but I will release any further fish if I am so lucky.
Today was t-shirt weather when the sun came up ..only wished I had brought a straw hat. I regained a bit of composure and continued the drift when I hooked a second fish only to lose it seconds later....can't say I was too disappointed. Maybe a few more hits but nothing to confirm. I had a beautiful day on the water and will be out there again tomorrow...........

Downstream hatchery hen......just over 33" and weighed in at just under thirteen lbs. :smt003
