I wouldn't be surprized if someday I heard that they probably would raise the boat rental fees now!

5000 kayaks @ roughly $9 per, thats $45K +/- lost I hope their decision comes back to bite them in their collective asses, the board will probably have to raise taxes to cover this loss.

$45,000 is the tip of the iceberg, how many of us have dinner, or buy a sandwich from a local shop, bought tackle and or bait.  It all adds up in the local economy.  Short sighted fear mongering just doesn't get it done.

You are assuming they see the big picture.

Not to take their side on this, but will stimulating the local economy help if they were to ever get the mussels.  BTW, I am not questioning, just wondering out loud.

I CANNOT believe that they did that. I am so pissed right now. We have very few freshwater angling opportunities in Santa Cruz. Excuse me while I pull the knife out of my back. Does anybody know which counsel members voted for this ban? If this ban doesn't get lifted I plan to vote for anybody but them when they come up for re-election.

I plan to write a strongly worded letter to them after I cool off a bit.

There were 3 council members against the kayak ban, and 4 who pushed it through. Mike Rotkin and Don Lane voted against the ban. I'll get the name of the third person who was against it. Of the 4 who voted for the ban, the most vocal were Cynthia Matthews, Tony Madrigal, and Lynn Robinson. Robinson was the dimwit who claimed that the mussels posed a threat to the safety of the water supply. Madrigal acted like the dumb kid in science class, and asked only idiotic questions. Matthews was the most forceful opponent of kayaks on the lake. I'll get the name of the 4th person who voted for the ban.

Thank you ganoderma. This is a really big deal for me. Loch Lomond is where my dad took me to teach me how to fish as a kid. It has a very special place in my heart and the thought of not being able to kayak this lake with my daughter (when she gets old enough) is really hard to swallow.

This ban of outside boats will never get me to stop going there. I'm actually going fishing at the loch with my dad on Saturday. We rent a row boat and bring our own trolling motor and batteries. Only 30 something bucks to rent a row boat for the day. I can't wait...there's nothing like going fishing with my old man.

It's a big deal for me, too. I live next to the lake and go paddling there a few times a week during the season. They really ruined my main source of recreation and the main reason I bought this overpriced house near the lake. I'm determined to keep up the pressure on them until they change their mind or they are voted out of office. Unfortunately, the next opportunity to vote the bums out won't happen until November 2010.

Damn, if I were you I'd be doubly pissed. Must be nice to be that close to the lake. Or it was anyways... :smt011 What a slap in the face....
