First time fishing the Delta...
Launched from Bethel Island Harbor at about 10:00, paddled to False river, around the tules and back. I marked a school (stripers I think) near False, but no takers. Saw a guy land a LMB on a spinnerbait in the tules, talked to a PB at about 2:00 - they said they got a couple before 7:00am, then nothing. They had also been to Discovery Bay that morning. Off the water at 2:30.
Conditions were mild\calm, water temp was about 56.

Any tips on 1) fishing the tules and 2) keeping position in current? I have a heavy enough anchor and release rigging, but I can't keep pointed in the direction I want to be.

Sorry about the skunk. I have had best luck finding tules along current near a drop off. Especially with little pockets in the tules that give refuge from the current. And about keeping position in current always face directly at the current. Unless there is a breeze or wind which makes it difficult. Or you can use the current as an advantage. Go up past where you want to fish and drift down hitting all the pockets in the tules.

Thanks for the report bblatt. I too am still learning how to fish the deltas. It is
definitely a new world of fishing for me. I can't wait to hear some responses
from the bass fishermans out there.

The bite has been hit or miss a lot lately.  I usually throw a t-rigged worm into the tules and inch it out slowly.  Spinnerbaits are great in tules too.  As far as current, look for areas that are tucked out of the main channel and current, because thats where you will find more LMB.  I have a Hobie, so the current is not a big problem for me usually.

Better luck next time.

Thanks for the info gents. I'm certainly not discouraged by a little skunk...I'm thinking of Big Break next time.

Tough luck on the skunk. I do well with shad patterns during colder months and crawdads in the warmer months. Also weedless rigs do well fishing the tules.
