"Good times, bad times, you know I've had my share..."

The bass were biting better in January, or they were easier to pattern then (deep diving crankbaits, white chartruse colors).  This month I've tried numerous tactics to find the fish, and some days they bite and some days they don't.  I got a few fish cranking, and a good number of average to small-sized fish (pic 1) drop-shottin' ledges, drop-offs, and deep weed edges earlier this month.

Lately, I have found fish starting to stage themselves in shallower water and are willing to hit plastic worms and jigs tossed into the weeds.  Good times are a-comin'!  The fish also seem to be coming in small batches, with numerous back-to-back hook-ups and bites.  Once you find 'em, stay on 'em!  I have had a few one fish outings (bad times), and a few outings up to 6 fish per trip (good times).  Here is a solid 3 pound 11 ounce fish caught on a texas-rigged worm (pic 2).

Have a good week,

HobieBlue

Nice going, Bryan! I kinda miss the Delta. Were you out at the DS/WS@8MileRoad? Weather seem nice. I love your honey hole.

U SUCK!!!! :smt013

No, not really, it's just the ugly head of jealousy rearing itself. You are one of the most consistent bass guys out there.

I been out to Folsom four times (2-3 hour trips) since Christmas and haven't been able to locate the fish, or if I found them, can't catch them. Also, yesterday I tried out my new Quantum Code reel and managed to bird's nest it badly on the first cast. It was so bad that I had to re-spool last night since there wasn't enough line to salvage.

WE NEED PRESPAWN NOW!!!!!!!! AND NO MORE WIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great work on the bass!! I'm not above begging and usually bring beer if you let me tag along once or twice..............

Tight lines!

I'll post a hook-up for March 7th or 8th in hook-ups.

Were you out at the DS/WS@8MileRoad?

Sometimes.  I've been all over exploring different spots.  The delta is a big place, and the bass are all over it.

Don--I'd love to try for a Hali this summer (in calm waters)...I'm off in June.  Are they still biting then?  BTW, nice hali the other day  :smt001 .

WTG on the largemouth bass HB. Sounded like you had to pull a little more tricks
under you sleeves to find the fish this time around. Your hard work paid off though.

Nice early season report HB. Early season is always really challenging. I actually tried on Sat. but the water temps were about 42... No luck. What water temps were you showing?

bbrrrrrr!!!!  That's some cold bassin' water!

I don't actually have my FF temp turned on, since the trans is in the yak and it would give a false reading anyway, but from what I can tell from other's intel and my fingers...

The water temps depend on location with the shallow areas being a bit warmer, as long as the current is light and you are away from the main river channels.  The temp seems to be in the upper 50's in warmer areas and low to mid 50's as you get into deeper channels near the rivers.  The water clarity seems to be a factor too with the muddier water a bit warmer than clear water.  In a couple weeks we may even hit the low 60's in some spots.

In cold water I work my bait REAL slow and real tight to cover...especially the crankbait (just barely enough to give it a wiggle and keep it down deep).

For the t-rigged worms, just letting it sit still a bit longer in the strike zone has produced some bites.  Sometimes I let it sit for 10-20 seconds without moving it, then twitch it a few inches and repeat.  That's hard to do when the bites are slow, but it works.

Good luck out there...

FH--hope you can make it!
