I decided to try a new spot this morning since it's only maybe 15 min tops from my house. I wanted to play with my new GPS for my yak and just get some exercise. I could really care less if I caught fish or not. I got on the water at 8:30 am to beautiful blue skies and no wind. I launched my kayak and noted the 50.2 degree morning water. I paddled around setting up the gps and paddled up river, I got maybe 3/4 mile up and turned around. I went past the launch and under the bridge torward some tiny rapids. I had a group of 7 people gathered right at the rapids to watch me go down them. Whatever lol. I took a video clip while going down them. I worked a handfull of different lures on the riprap for nothing, I decided to go a little further down the river. I came up on some more rapids, I saw a nice slow moving pool below so I decided to go down these as well. I worked the pool for a while for nothing so I decided to go upstream. I had to get out in the river in my waders to drag my kayak up through each of the two rapids. I played under the bridge for a while with the big schools of bluegill hanging out. I had some small crappie jigs but not small enough. Theyd grab the tail and run with it. It was fun but not rewarding. They would have ben fun on a fly pole. I then decide to paddle upstream as far as I could go. I got a little over a mile before I hit fast moving water and couldnt go any further. I spotted some nice bass but they were slow moving and lethargic. I guess 50 degree water will do that lol. I also encountered two bass boats on the rive as well. Just something about a bass boat passing me at 30mph+ on a river that makes me uncomfortable. Oh well, not my boat!  :smt011. I paddled back to the launch and called it a day. 4 hours on the water felt good.

Total paddling mileage for today 5.95 miles! Awesome!

Good stuff, Jeff.  I love paddling up river and enjoying the reward of cruising back down, knowing what I'm in for, and covering the miles.  No gym membership needed!  Glad to see you getting out.   :smt001

don't worry jeff, you'll get them soon.  I've only fished it once but I do know there are bass in there.  probably just a little too cold for them yet =)

I actually got it in a trade deal from agarcia. Its an Magellan eXplorist 210, waterproof. I like it because you can upload waypoints and routes directly to Google Earth from it. It has a price tag on the box from Sport Chalet. $129.
