I just compiled number and sizes of shirts requested and posted that up on the T-shirt thread - please check it for accuracy, and if you haven't requested one you need to soon or you'll miss the boat, Yo.   :smt002

I can't believe we're getting so close!  I'm gonna need yoga or valium or something to be able to sleep as this draws nearer...   :smt003

Ha, just noticed this post from GB2 back on pg 7.  We're already at 31 pages!  :smt003

Sailfish's daily countdowns alone will add two pages from today.  So, let's all take a fresh guess at this.  My money is 44 pages total when the clock strikes.

Anyone want the under/over? :smt044

I'll take the over, I reckon it's gonna be closer to 60! Even more if the forecast is looking iffy.

So, Yakuza-Martin, what'd you decide?  Friend's short-notice wedding or Abking's FreeLove OceanFest BootCamp?!   :smt003

"Iffy"?!!  Don't be cursing us, Phil!  I've had a very good feeling going about epic conditions...   :smt007

And don't start betting on the length of this thread or I'll get in collusion with Sailfish and squelch the entire post when we hit our desired target.   :smt005

It's dangerous to give a guy that kind of power - deleting a 10,000 view active post!   :smt044

British =  genetically pessimistic. Especially since I paid out for a vacation rental. Even if it's hurricance force and pouring rain, we're going to Shelter Cove.

Eric -

Good conditions would be nice, but like Phil, will be there even if conditions are bad. Surf fishing and beer sounds pretty good to me.  :smt007 BTW, do you ever used the heavy stuff (8-12oz) at SC or is 1-6oz good enough? I will have the dog so space is limited in my SUV and I have been trying to bring less for saltwater trips.

Thanks! Scott

I'm biased about the "heavy stuff", Scott.  I'm usually after Lingasaurus Rex, so I go big.  6 ounce is my minimum up here unless I'm aiming to play around with the topwater blacks or something.  The drift up here even on a calm day usually requires the big beef.  I know MattS has been producing a bunch of his own tackle and will have some there for us to buy at a very reasonable price...  On the "Thrill Ride" I only had a slip-rigged chovie behind a DeepSix and dodger though...  I'm afraid if I trolled deep with a setup like that I'd be frowned on because it's a salmon fishing setup, but I'll never forget how big and heavy whatever that fish was felt, and it was all the more special not having a big hunk of lead on the line too.   :smt007

You could actually drop a squid or herring down with a small weight and drift it through the rocks on the bottom and probably do as well as jigging.

Ditto - got three days in the mini-suite. So the GF and I are there no matter what. Bringin' the shore fishing gear in case of heavy winds...but I know I won't need it!  :smt002

Well, there's a song they sing at the tavern there:  "...ah the grooves of the reef at Shelter Cove are like the fingers of a thief, they're a treasure trove, of old hooks and jigs of sailors past..."  No, I'm just kidding, but is that 'catchy' enough for ya?!   :smt005  No beer for 4 days - I'm in rare form!   :smt044 :smt044

I don't lose too much gear there, but that's a pretty random measurement.  A big part of using the heavy stuff is to keep your line vertical as much as possible so as to avoid the unwanted hookups of the snag variety.

Snags aren't all bad - I once pulled out of a snag (that must've been kelp) and a Lingzilla destroyed my jig right then!  Picture a jig suddenly darting up out of the kelp - irresistable to big mama sitting nearby!   :smt007 :smt003
