Got a late start today after rigging my replacement sonar only to be turned away by the person at the kiosk.  I was told that "something" was found in the lake and they are doing testing, and no launching allowed until further notice.  I inquired about the back lake (which does not have a ramp but is open to kayaks and float tubes) and was flat-out denied.

Kinda sucks being turned away after paying so much for inspections, a yearly parking plate, and daily fishing fees there on a regular basis, (on top of the regular fishing license).  The water looked sweeeet, too!

The guy checking my boat today confirmed that Quarry is, in fact, closed. He had also mentioned that inspections are going to get much more thorough that what they have been doing in the past. Del Valle will now be staffed with 4 people instead of two. He said to not even bother going to Shadow Cliffs. Apparently, they do not do inspections there and if you mention or reply that you have been there, you will not be able to launch. He made it seem like you will be banned for 45+ days.

Getting pretty out of hand down there with the inspections and infestations it sounds like...  Too bad for the denial.  Better luck next time.   :smt001

Most inspectors are total douchebags. Sorry to here you got turned away after you've paid all those fees for your yearly tags.

Went to Del Valle once and got turned away cause my yak had a little moisture.
Explained to the douchebag that my yak has been in clean dry garage for 3 days and the moisture he sees on the yak is early morning dew. He was a total prick, I wanted to pick him up and throw him into the lake. Never been back.

Really??  Cause they have been pretty nice to most yackers I know.  The last time I was there I passed with flying colors, but SinCoast, MonsterGuppy and FishMaster all failed, due to moisture, and let them in anyway!  And the time before that, the guy just looked at my NCKA sticker and said, go on ahead, these guys know what they are doing.

I was told that they found mussels on Saturday and they shut the lake down the same day.

Ouch! Of all places you would have though the quarries were pretty safe from infection, as motorboats are not allowed in the ponds. That just show you how futile are the inspections system they have put in place.

The folks at Quarry Lakes are generally VERY nice and most of them know me by sight and are super friendly.  They have been accomodating and reasonable more than once when I had a few dewdrops in a crevice or something.  The closure came from someone up the chain, so they had no say in the matter.  So I was pissed, but I do understand the situation.

I think the inspections are generally reasonable...  I mean "clean and dry" means just that and isn't tough to achieve.  And it's only $3, which is good for 30 days.

I use a sham-wow, btw...  works great!

But the reason for this post is to say the Del Valle inspectors, (who were also friendly), informed me that the tests at Quarry were negative, and the lake was open again as of Sunday.

Wow! Glad to hear that it was a false alarm. It just did not make sense that it would show up in those ponds.
