Debra made the call for a yak trip to "some lake". So we loaded the wavewalkers and headed to Angels Camp Friday afternoon.
Was going to fish a little in the evening but nasty headon in Jamestown locked us up till dark.
Breakfast at Rods Grill and a sandwich to go from the Pickle Barrel

We hit the lake at around 9:30 to a xlnt but cold weather.  We launched from Glory Hole.

and headed right for the cove that I knew woyuld have water coming in.

Saw LOTS of marks deep and was worried about getting to them. Once we got back in the cove I rigged my trusty bobber/crappie jig setup and commenced to whackin and stackin.

Pretty much bit on every cast and they would hit it multiple times if you didn't hook them first time.

Easily boated a couple of dozen and lost many as well.

Deb got the nicest one landed a half a dozen with lots of takedowns.

I love bobber fishing.

She hung until 5:30  but frozen feet sent us back to the ramp.

 Risers everywhere

Awesome sunset

Temps in the low 20'as this morning sent us packing instead of fishing. All fish released.
Dan, next time you are in Angels Camp go here:

May go back this week in the bass boat.

Awesome report and pictures ppickerell. Is it me or is the lake very low? I almost

Sonora.

Pretty low! But it sure concentrates the fish.

Cool report PP.  I love Melones but unfortunately I don't there as much as I'd like.  What cove was it that had the moving water?

But it sure concentrates the fish.

And it helps that they are currently stocking the snot out of Melones right now. :smt002

I don't know how to say this without it coming across mean, but handling trout with the types of gloves you were wearing isn't particularly good for them.  It rubs off their "protective slime."

What type of glove do you use?

Looks like you two had a great day.  The fish-in-front-of-the-mouth pictures made me think you guys were considering doing the FisHunter with a trout!   :smt005

Way to kick down the "hotspot" info too.   :smt001

Way to go P, thanks for the pics and report.  That place "Stories in Stone" is a cool store.  I lived in Sonora for 3 years and used to drop in every once in a while for a mummified piranha or other gift!

Doesn't matter, if those are the ones they kept. "Whackin & stackin" doesn't sound like total catch & release.

Knew that I should have bit my tongue.  My intentions weren't to stir the pot so I apologize if I managed to upset anybody.  The last thing I wanted to do was hijack P's awesome trip and report.

But none were kept.  They were all released according to the original post, which you mentioned.

And I realize they were all probably "put & take" trout, but it shouldn't diminish their being.

What type of glove do you use?

I haven't been in weather where I needed gloves as of yet in my short yaking lifetime however when I would take out my little aluminum valco and have to handle a fish, I'd just take my gloves off when dealing with a fish.

For sure.  Thanks for posting a pic P.  Do you know what creek that is?
