Well, we hit the slough with a huge volume of bait and fishermen, but no legal sturgies showed us any love.

I arrived a bit early, around 9:30 and met fuenstock in the parking lot. We could see that there were a couple yaks already on the water, so we launched and met Pat and his son who were already fishing.

On the way out Fishunter radioed that he was on his way, so I anchored up on "the spot" and waited for him. Fishunter and I set up next to each other on "the spot" and about 15 minutes into it my striper rod started screaming. After a short fight I landed a NICE striper  :smt007 I didn't have a net with me, so I had to lip it. Once I got home it weighed in at 12 lbs. woo hoo!  :smt044 Fishunter took some pics, so hopefully he'll post up in this thread.

A few minutes later, after resetting, my sturgeon set-up starts wiggling, I swing for the fences and it doesn't pull back, but there's something there. I crank it in and find a teeny-tiny sturgeon on the end. I unhooked him, Adam snapped another picture, and back into the water so he can go grow up.

Unfortunately, that was all the action all day long. About 4:00 pm I called it a day and paddled in with a nice fish for dinner, but still no sturgeon for me.

Wow!!! Was the water even moving out there. Looks pretty calm... I've been getting that itch that needs some serious scratching...

Good efforts by all, I'm thinkin it was too nice to catch much, but then there's that 12# striper, now that's a great consolation prize,,,

Thanks for the report

It was a nice calm day, alittle cold but hey it's winter! Sturgeon bite has been alittle tuff with the colder weather, but there out there! Nice meeting and talking to some of the ncka guys. Thanks for the sticker Adam.

oh yeah!...it sure was fun just sitting there, watching F'nJay get all the action. I was hoping for a nice fish just like his to cap-off the year, but being in that slack zone I knew it was gonna be slow....I always bring up the ? of which is worse?

a) seeing lots of fish on the FF and NOT HOOKING any.
or
b) NOT SEEING any fish on the FF and not hooking any.

It was a pretty big crew that showed up. the sunset was spactacular again and all those rotted tullies that seemed to funnel into never ending stream, zero'd into our fishing path....seriously!, it was a 10ft. wide stream, that stuck together and stayed RIGHT ON OUR TRACK!  :smt013

pic1~ on my way to the secret spot, I spot 4 yaks on the water already.

pics2&3~ Fishin-Jay with a clean beauty.

Pat~ thanks for the shot! Can you tell I was having the BEST DAY by the way i was postured?  :smt003  Don't give up on the place just yet, it is just a timing thing. Good OUTflowing tide, combined with, when ALL those BIG FISH you saw on your FF begin to EAT. :smt012

Miguel~ no problemo on the sticker, if your out there putting in time, you deserve one! You were sitting in a spot that I've spent MANY of hours wondering, WHY in the FUK aren't I hooking any of these FISH! :smt013
Don't forget to post your trips and join in on the hook ups, it helps me and others figure out when's the BEST TIME to waste in good ol'SuckaSlough!
and you can still buy some off the site,PapaBill would be happy. :smt003

and fellas? there was plenty of room for all of you to join in.

To everyone who reported in this thread, you all did an awesome job. Adam your pics are way cool and jays striper is a perfect size fish for eating.Danglin, is that pic from last summer. Either your nerve endings don't go to your legs or you are one muy tough hombre to be in shorts in late December. Nice sturgeon. It seems like evryone is getting it done on the hail mary. Whats up with that?I fished Montezuma once 30 years ago when we went duck hunting at grizzly and brought our poles because it looked like high skies and lots of sun. We caught bass that day and I haven't been back since. Looks to be a huge mistake on my part. Any of you headed back up there on new years weekend? I would love to tag along. Thanks for the great reports. Craig
