If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

What a tease!

What the title meant to say was:

Del Valle Sat 12/13 - NO LONGER any Fish in that lake now that I'm done!!!!

Good work Al, I look forward to the report.  Too bad you can't join us tomorrow at Melones. :smt009  Although on second thought, we don't want you cleaning out 2 lakes in consecutive days. :smt003

OK, sorry for the tease guys  :smt005  Ended up not having enough time to update the post last night, had a holiday party to attend.

Short of the story is that I was on a mission to slay trout, and my plan worked perfectly!  Caught and released 4 fish, and kept 3 one is probably 3-4 pounds.  Was hoping to do a DOUBLE limit, catch and release and take home.  If I hooked up on every bite, I would have made it  :smt002

My buddy Angel and I arrived right at 7, paid our fees and then went through inspection.  They didn't feel the need to bother with our inspections since I had an NCKA sticker on the boat  :smt044 and they took my word that we were both nice an dry.

It was actually really nice in the morning, no clouds, sun rose up above the hills and kept us warm, for a while.  We stuck close to the launch all day, seeing as how the wind blowing constantly, didn't feel like fighting it all day long.

Started out trolling a dodger and needlefish on one rig, and a rapala deep diver on the other.  Caught 4 trout on the smaller side this way, all released.

Clouds eventually moved in, but we never had a drop of rain while we were out there.  But once our source of heat was covered up, had a hard time staying out there in the wind.  So we parked ourselves on the opposite side of the launch ramp, and stayed out of the wind bait fishing with power bait and worms.  The big fish of the day took a white power worm with chartreuse power egg, on my first cast.  Picked up a couple more, and called it a day.

We headed back in, and I bumped into John Barker, guy I fished with a bunch at Shadowcliffs before the yak.  He had caught the lake record 18.1# bass in that lake earlier this year, but I had only heard about it earlier this week.  Was cool to catch up with him and give him a personal congratulations.

Way to stick out the crappy conditions and come away with some fish.  Nice.

Is that darker trout a different species from the others?

Nice work out there! Sorry I missed you, but I hosted our office party at my house Friday night and it went way longer than I thought it would. It was probably the martini bar I had set up!  :party

I made it out to Del Valle today in the cold and wind and managed about four trout, but all of them were tiny little stockers. On the plus side, they weren't manning the entrance kiosk. So, when I got to the boat inspection they checked my boat and said "looks like a free day for you"  :smt006

I did have to buy the $4 fishing pass at the tackle shop, but it sure beats $16 for entry, launch, fishing, and boat inspection.  :smt004

Nice work, Al and Jay.  I just Googled and learned all about where Del Valle is (finally!).  Looks like a cool place.   :smt001
