Went to Rio about 7:30 A.M., 3rd or 4th cast got a nice 2#, spent another 2 hours for 3 more hand size fish and called it. I might try SL on Sunday... Anybody try SL lately?

SL = San Luis Reservoir. For the perch I was using 2" motoroil grubs. I thinking Dinasour Point for SL because it's the closest to Santa Cruz. Here is the report from the Fresno Bee...

San Luis Reservoir and O'Neill Forebay

**Stripers **Catfish **Bass **Crappie

Ly Tu of Ly's Fishing Goods in San Jose said the striper bite on the big lake has been hit or miss with heavy boat pressure. The majority of the fish weigh between 3 to 4 pounds and are hitting either jumbo minnows or frozen anchovies near Romero Visitor Center. Field scout Chris Counts landed limits of stripers to 27 inches on chartreuse or firetiger Bombers and Yozuris with long set backs of 125 to 175 feet from the Trash Racks to the Basalt Bay along the Dam at depths from 65 to 85 feet. Tu said the Forebay has been limited to heavy angler pressure and small, undersized fish. The lake has risen with 2,034 acre-feet of Delta water to 20% capacity. No trout report for Los Banos Creek Reservoir, with trout plant scheduled for the next two weeks. Wind conditions: (800) 805-4805.

I was thrown off, by your title "Surf Perch"   To my knowledge theres no surf on fresh waters.   I'm not sure wind wake could be considered "surf" although with the winds out on San Luis maybe it is possible to "surf" I'm more used to hearing what you did as bank fishing.
The San Lorenzo I mentioned is a river that open to the Monterey bay in Santa Cruz.  There you can "Surf Perch"  Not sure how well you'll do there though.

I've fished the SL (San Lorenzo) rivermouth for perch.  Caught some there.  In fact my biggest perch ever which was around 13" was caught on the boardwalk side of the SL (San Lorenzo).  also caught some fun jacksmelt there during the month of March.

I was wondering if Rio is Rio Del Mar?....Codrado?......John.....?.....Anyone.......?

Allen,
Sorry for the late post, I didn't see your question. Yes, Rio Del Mar beach, on the flats from the state parking lot South.

Nice tides for clams and mussels this week...

San Luis may be very windy this Sunday. Cold winds coming from the north so beware.

edit: After reviewing the wind charts sunday looks okay. It is Saturday when it'll be windy.
