SBD - Yep I have the Kelly Kettle. It works like a charm. Will boil in 5-8 min with just a handful or two if thin strips of wood. When you first fill it foes leak a few drops but that quickly goes away as the metal expands with the heat (they even say that will happen in the paperwork)

You build a real small fire and don't grab it while flames are still still leaving the chimney...but definitely a limiting factor but part of the funny article.  Same idea, better handle... http://www.bushkettle.com.au/

Okay the cheapskate in me is thinking, fire chimnney with a water kettle over it.  Or a an old coffee can.  Hard to spend a hundred bucks on that.

BTW for those of you who need something hot to eat while you on the water, try an MRE heater pack.  Just add water slip a small can of soup or chili in there and heat it up.   I  have used these for years ( of course I get them all the damn time on drill weekends), they are also great for motorcycle camping, and in a pinch it can help ward off Hypothermia.  http://www.amazon.com/MRE-Heater-12-pack/dp/B0002X94ZC

I've often wondered how those MRE's taste.  Never had one.  Thought about them during my jeep camping trips in the past, but never got around to getting any.

Some aren't bad.  Some are kinda nasty.  The pineapple tastes like sulfer...

They are kinda pricey for what they are, imo, but the main reason I don't use them is because of all the trash they generate.

My Thermette is expected to arrive tomorrow.

It's ironic to wait 3 months for something that will boil water in 3 minutes.

Those thermette guys have a great problem in this economy.  They've got too much work.

I'm more than a little disappointed that the thing is made in China...  Especially for the price.  Not much to it, really, and the copper's not terribly thick.  The handles are smaller than I expected.

But it's pretty neat, holds plenty water, seems very serviceable, should hold up over time, and will only look cooler as the copper ages.  It looks like it could have been built 100 years ago.

Gonna try it out this weekend.

The one my wife got me for Xmas (after i saw this thread) doesn't hold  water. It looks like a small conical woodstove, where you put your pan or whatever on top.  Heats water or anything else pretty fast.

I was disappointed at first (but didn't say anything of course to my wife) because it wasn't a thermette.  But it's really light and versatile .....and I got it on Christmas.

I just got mine.  Haven't tried it yet but I will as soon as I get home from the dreaded PFMC.  Overall the construction/quality was pretty much what I was expecting.  Its kinda crude, but in an a OS kinda way...pretty cool.  I unpacked it at work and had it on my table, and everyone that came into my office was totally intrigued by it.

I cooked sausage and eggs on the fire rings, but haven't boiled water yet.  Works great provided you have a newspaper or dry tinder handy.
