Hit the shipping channel in West Sac on Friday at daybreak, fog was thick at times. Not much stirring early in the turning basin. Tried live mudsuckers in 20 - 30 feet of water but nothing doing. Trolled rattle traps near the lock and the action started. End of outgoing and beginning of incoming was most productive (1100 - 1300). We would find the schools on ff and hammer them letting the traps sink a few feet then jerk. Bass were schooling along the banks in 8-10 feet. Nothing monsterous, but good fighters!

Nice report and pics on the striper action to the north.  It sure is fun when you can find a school of hungry fish!

Thanks for the report.  I used to fish there as a kid. I would ride my BMX bike from waaaAAAYYYyyyy across town with my best friend.  We used to catch some REALLY big stripers there.  They never looked so good after the 3 hour bike ride home!

nice hook up! :smt038
I didn't know anybody else goes there.  I went there yesterday after work fish until sun down & caught bunch of dinks & small LMB.  Most of them are caught on minnows & few on pencil poppers.   Missed bunch too.
It was only 15 mins from my house but I had never been there (wish known earlier).  very easy launch & lots of action.
I hurried out because the sign said "gate opens at sun rise to dusk", but one local guy said the gate stays open all that time...  anybody know? :smt012

As far as I can tell there are no strict rules. There is a gate for members to launch via car/trailer from. Its suppose to be a non-motorized (except for members) launching area but I've seen people launch small motorboats there a few times.

One more thing, there are some rules to the channel, near the docks and ships at port, down near the turning basin, you have to stay in mid-channel. We got a little too lose to the docks and an unhappy security officer came down to shoe us off.

Thanks for the info, Diroblo! :smt006
I parked & launched at Barge Canal Access.  Just carried down the kayak & stuff, but next time I'm bringing the wheels.
No one was at the docks area when I was there, but I found the fish on the shallow part of the canal.   I couldn't find them in the deep water area, but if I did, they might be bigger...?

Thanks for the intel,

Been meaning to hit that after work but Life has been getting in the way....

Really interesting when that first open up there ( Barge Cannal Access area ).. kept seeing locals show up with small power boats scratching their heads as to why their launch was taken away...

They sure have some good stories of how good the fishing can be in this spot...

This is my " Go To " when covering water in the Delta...

 BTW... Hey Uminchu Naoaki!!!!
