Launched in front of MBK in some wind waves and a lot of wind from the north.  It was pretty sloppy.  Mw and the wife made it to cannery row area and spotted a few otters and lots of seals and sea lions.  Then we saw several whale spouts out in the bay.  As we kept watching,. we both said at the same time, `those whales are HUUUUGE!'  They definitely were the biggest whales we have seen.  There was a 26ft Grady White fishing boat right next to one of them when it came up and that boat looked like a toy!  We were pretty sure they were not humpbacks.  Later after landing (without incident!) we went up on the wharf and talked to the folks at the whale watching boat and they said that they were probably blue whales.  They have been spotted on some of the whale watching trips in the last couple of weeks.  Too rough/windy to fish.  Still a great day on the water.  Sunny, hot and no one else out there.  Wonder why????

Thanks for the report. I had to work today or I would have joined you. I did notice the offshore winds around Monterey Bay out to Asilomar. To my surprise Pebble Beach and Carmel were relatively calm around 2PM. It looked as though Carmel was protected from the winds.

blue whales sightings..way cool!  I generally have better sight seeing than fishing in that area.
