Thanks for the help Zeelander.

Thanks for the info mmiller.

I bought it last January or very end of December.  How much are the new drums?  I may upgrade to the newer screw-in mast as well.  Meanwhile I have had the new cables installed and five successful outings since the last breakage.

I'm gonna shoot Hobie another e-mail, and see if I can get some of the cables paid for.

Logical that the Turbo fins on the Sport... pedaled hard would be quite stressful.
Don't know much about the MDs but you would think a smaller lighter boat would have less stress on the drives, is it because the sport has more drag than the longer boats??

It is a short waterline boat. Turbo Fins are better as a top-end speed fin and the Sport does not have the hull shape for that. That means you put in a lot of effort to keep it moving at a faster pace which loads up the drive. On the Adventure... it just glides along at a fast clip and you don't expend as much energy to keep it there.

I think the description given of a lose idler cable explains most of the issue. The chains and cables were experiencing a snapping load due to the slack idler cable.

HobieBlue... call your dealer to file a claim for some parts. Mention my name. I will try to hook up with Jacques in Warranty about this.

I damaged a sprocket and masts on my Outback on Sept 5.  I have been waiting on Hobie parts since Sept 8th.  After a month, I contacted Hobie by email and finally got new sprockets.  I am still waiting for masts for my turbo fins.  About two weeks ago Hobie shipped standard masts to my dealer by mistake.   One of the masts was defective.  My dealer was so apologetic that he gave me the masts, at no charge, so I could at least get back in the water with the standard fins.  I don't know if the problem is with Hobie or my dealer but I'm glad I didn't get rid of my paddle yaks.
