I'm going to Lassen for family camp out this weekend. No kayak. Anyone know where to fish there?

Manzanita Lake has a lot of 20" trout in it, but it is pretty much catch and release only, single barbless hook, artificials only.
I think you are allowed to keep a fish between 10" and 13", but it has been a while since I fished it and am not 100% sure. Just a lot easier to let everyting go.
No motors are allowed on this small lake so that is a plus.
It is has a LOT of weeds on the bottom and they are THICK. The challenge is hooking the fish on light line so as not to spook them, then not letting them get down.
When I fly fished there I used a size 20 midge, an 18-20 brassie and a 12-18 red ant. The flats are very productive in the early early morning as the lunkers are cruising them picking nymphs off the bottom. The scenery is awesome. Have fun.

I think I fished manzanita lake when I was a kid and I remember seeing a ton of big trout in there.  The only person that was catching them that day was a guy flyfishing.

I have fished there two times before. I used #12 maroon wooly buggers and done ok. Bottom bouncing along the weeds with a spin fly bubble. Nothing like the 20" fish Tote is talking about though.

BTW : cinder cone = 1 foot up = 1/2 slide back down.

HAT CREEK.....
Its not too far, but definitely worth the drive. We caught trout up to 4.5 lbs in that creek(browns). And Burney Falls is near there a little bit also.

If you go eat at Uncle Runts...Good food. Nice people. :smt001

Once when I was there I saw a guy with 2 trout from Manzanita. One was 24" and the other 26". The only reason I know the exact length is because I talked to the F&G warden who popped him not only for taking them but for catching them on night crawlers.
A hefty fine that one was.
The Pit River also has footballs for trout. I don't know the regs for this river, but if you fish it look them up.

What about Baum Lake by Burney?  Fished it twice (flyfishing with poor results).  Its supposed to have some big ones in it.

It used to be motorless only, but I was throwing from shore.
