I wasn't going to post this, but after reading Dale's post I sort of agree with him.

So here it goes: Launched around 8:30 ( ranger was 10 minutes late on opening the damn gate again.) The wate was flat and calm. Very light wind on the outside. Went straight out to look for a ledge I like to fish. But without my fishfinder working, it took some time. A pin in the battery connector finaly broke due to corrosion. I wasn't greasing it often enough. I learned how much I rely on that FF. Anyhow I was able to find the area in about 35 ft of water and fished a metal bar tipped with squid, fish not bitting, switched to a white scampi and fished around the area with that, fish just weren't bitting. I didnt hook a fish till around high noon, a mid size blue( first blue I hooked this year in that area) After that the brown RF bite turned on. I hooked 6 nice browns then it shut off. Came in around 3. Water was still really nice but I was getting tired. I hear there are a few Butts still being caught. I saw a lot of sealions going after sardines. aka-Kimo

Did you try for any live bait?. Live Sardines and Macks can get fish to bite when all else fails.

seems more reports this year where the fishing is slow then turns on for a while, then rapidly shuts down.  Fish getting moodier?

I was on shore on the Capitola Esplanade Sunday 10-11:30 and saw a green yak in the kelp out there (had seen the same one, I think, to the west of the wharf a little earlier) but I didn't think it was you because he didn't have a yellow jacket.  I have parked in the campground overflow parking and rolled down the hill and under the chain to the beach early in the morning, but that's a long way, and probably not worth it when it gets light so late.  The ranger has been late a lot there.  Glad you reported.

I was actually out there Sunday morning as well. I was in my new pre-owned Cobra Marauder throwing artificials. Started around 9:30ish and caught one brown on a pearl Buzz Bomb and one decent black dropshotting FinS in anchovy color and missed a monster hit on the dropshot. Bite turned off around 11:00 and I stayed till around 1:00. Rod in the yellow Malibu did squat on bait but bait was hard to find. It was in small balls and moving fast. Weird day since both Rod and I pounded the Mile reef which is usually good for at least on ling and some grass rockcod. I can't complain since I caught enough fish for ceviche.

Tight lines!
