First fish of the trip was this nice 21 inch cab

The second day was not as sunny but just as flat...

I was so obsessed with the fishing that I didn't fully appreciate how amazing the conditions were. No-one had problems launching or landing, I think it just looks sloppy in the photo.

Can anyone confirm the ID of my "copper". That's my best guess based upon the Milton Love book. When I first saw color  I thought it was a Verm  :smt001 but it's definitely not.

Maybe a copper faking being a vermilion just to try and keep me happy....... a milli vanillion?

Pat - thanks for the report and pics. Two things, the pics reminded me of Eugene's and I didn't think you could get up that early.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 I was in LA at the UCLA - Stanford game while you were pounding rockies and was feeling kind of left out.  :smt011 Luckily UCLA won.  :smt003 and made missing the carnage less painful.

Rhyak - glad you had a chance to experience Nor Cal kayak fishing at its best and meet the boyz. Coming to your hood next year.  :smt006

Northern Boy + Partner - you have had a great year since the San Pablo Reservior opener. Sorry I steered you wrong there and glad you got a verm + 2 lings and sorry about forgeting about freedom of speech in the rest of the free world.  :smt005

I was a good trip.  Slow for a long time, then it picked up, then it slowed again.  I caught 4+ starries, coppers, verms, blues and a long, big headed verm that went to 25", but he only weighed 6 lbs.  He did not come close to beating my 7+ lb verm.

Scott~ isn't it GREAT to watch the EVALUTION from fresh to salt and then the MADNESS that follows.....traveling great distances, trying to control the burn, but discovering you've only FUELED the FIRE!

NB~ I've been hunting them BLOODY Verms ALL season!...i feel your pain brother.
I too, settled for the "next best thing" a fat COPPER!

I caught 4+ starries

I heard this a few times; what's a starry? (Surely not a starry flounder?).

I forgot something; my biggest fish of the day broke me off after towing me round for a while. It was large. I hooked it on a live 4" sandab; where did I "catch" that sandab; it was just swimming round in the footwell of my drifter! No idea how it got there but sometimes having an old watery kayak has its advantges!

Also; we ate the copper last night, it was great, better than the Verm actually.
