Anyone out there with Pt Arena experience?  Forcast for mid week is for 1-3 ft. wind waves and a 6-7 ft NW swell.  Thur looks like the best day.  With that forecast, How likely would it be to safely rock fish/ab dive around the harbor, 1/4 mile north or south.  Is the area below the point protected from a NW swell?

I'm not familiar with the area, but i do know that that is the BEGINING MARKER for the "early" Rockfish(ing) Closure,it covers NORTH of it to OREGON.

I was up there about a month ago and stopped at the Pt Arena harbor to check it out. A couple was coming out of the water and I asked them how many abs they got. They said they worked all the way out to the south point and didn't see any legal abs. They said they saw a lot of shells on the bottom but no abs.

The coordinates for the closure I believe are for the "Point", where the lighthouse is located not Arena Cove.

Outside the cove to the south are some great kelp beds that fish well. Also, Abalone are available to the South edge of the cove and beyond. I have also seen surfers in come in with Abs on their boards from both the North and South ends of the cove.
