I was wondering how to or if there is a annual event for NCKA member into Fresh water to get together and meet.

I would only guess (but cannot find) there would be a Fresh water event.

Not everyone is comfortable in salt water.

Doing it well is hard and costly...MBF is fun and cheap.

To give you an idea here is what BAM costs to put on:

$1000- CSBA
$750-   Boat #2
$350-   Porta Potties
$225-  Trophies
$50-    CDFG "event permit"
$230-  shirt artwork
$100-  Weigh boat
$300-   beer...looks like Sierra Nevada isn't coming through...no Molbasser aqui

Thats a tad over 3 grand.  It will take at least 53 or so entries to break even.  Going big is a risk, because if turnout sucks...I still gotta pay the bills.  So for Elk 08 was the only event that wasn't a loss.  BAM 08 is looking like a negative number.  Shirt sales also were a loss.

It appears the reason people do the quick and dirty half day and a hot dog format as the big events are a lot of work for no gain...there simply isn't the interest/support to make these things a go.

Enjoy your hot dogs in 09...

Sean, that's disgustingly shocking. I'm willing to kick in some extra $$$ to help you out.

Hojo-that is super nice put not necessary...but I really appreciate the thought.  My point here is that it takes a ton of time and a pile of dough to do these things...they are not ez.  I don't plan on getting rich doing this, but going broke ain't part of the plan either!!!

Me too...  not a lot you can do these days for that cheap.  Aren't the normal campgrounds like $30 a night...  but you're surrounded by strangers, some stranger than others, on a tiny plot...  far from the water... and beer is extra.

For $55 you get camping on the lakefront, with room to stretch out...  knowing you're surrounded by honest, friendly folks.  With beer and a place to pee it out!

Oh, and a 1/25 shot at a free kayak.

I have considered raising the cost, but I get complaints every year about the cost now...I hear ya...seems like a deal to me but I dont want to raise the fee and then have 10 guys show.
