Man the swells were big. I am swaying back and forth while I type.

Beautiful day on the water with good people. Sadly, not a lot of activity to report for me. One minor Cab and a keeper Vermillion. Pics below.

It's always better to report a slow outing than not being able to go out with the guys and just read about other's outing.  Nice fish :smt003

That's a beauty Verm, and I love the meal pic. It's makin me hungry & I already had dinner!

That always happens to me, especially in the shower after paddling. That's when you know it was a good day!

Some friends were headed to SW to ab dive today, I suspect they bailed due to the swell.

Yeah, it was weird one yesterday. A snag on alsmost every drop. I cleaned out my tackle box! I caught a decent number of fish but nothing big. They were mostly Chinas and I kept the floaters. Everything came on the teaser shrimp fly apart from one incredibly ambitious gopher. I have to respect the humble gopher, they have ambition and heart.

It was great to meet so many new folks yesterday, a testament to the power of NCKA and the internet in general. Here we all are! This is in the morning before the swells started rolling.
(Good grief, I am really losing my accent  :smt011)

PS: there were a bunch of folks ab diving in the cove, the ones we spoke to got limits but it took a while.
PPS: we also saw whales. That was very, very cool.
PPPS: When we got back in there was a humbling reminder that really today had been an excellent days fishing; a "youth organisation" (I don't know what but it was all adolescent males) was having some sort of "fishing clinic" on the beach. There must have been 20 of them and they'd been there for hours with nothing to show for it but snags and three small crabs.

Awesome day kayakfishig with the NCKA gang! Not bad at all for a maiden voyage. Thanks to everyone there for such a cool day! Thanks Yakattack for sharing pointers on how to launch and land and helping with the putting away gear.

It was nice to put faces behind the NCKA handles. I can't wait to go again.  :smt001
I wouldn't go so far as to call a lingcod filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a lingcod's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Here is a first report from me.
I showed to this area for a first put in on the big blue.
I stayed at a "Ranch" in Stillwater Cove I won't stay there again.
Along the way I collected all the recomended tackle (Special THANKS to SINCOAST) all the recomended safety gear (thanks to all that convinced me I'm not indistructable....everyone who posted).
I did however find that ordering online IS the cheapest way to aquire things. After not finding THEE most comfortable pfd I chose a temporary one to get me through the day, I have a boat so the temp pfd will just end up on it.
I arrived at the put in and then realized wheelz are a tool I never needed and did not have so I then drove to Ocean Cove store for the boat ramp paid a fee of course.
I after checking and re-checking the day's fun and safety list finally got the nerve to launch, pics are still in the camera.

WOW! brow & hands sweating, heart racing, swells pushing me to the wrong places not many things but OH SHIT going through my head. Paddleing through the kelp beds and beyond the rocks I then and only then realized I was alone even with everyone watching from the cliffs, and boats all around me everyone seems to disapear quickly. Up and down, side to side things that normally don't happen on this Yak are happening AHHHHH....
Okay I'm gonna just focus on dropping a line seeing what happens. So there I am yo yoing a white shrimp fly tipped with a bit of squid and dink a nice Verm. About a 2-3#er bright red and sweeeeet. Blood pumping and nerves all but gone I started to realize how very hard it was to move and how sweaty I was getting. I thought I should be careful not to over do it get in trouble and not be able to remidy it even though I'm a very active outdoor guy I felt this was enough physical exsurtion for a first time. I must have spent only 30-40min on the water but I'm surely hooked for life. In conclusion I did not like not being able to move, the pfd I choose was not a comfortable one and it became a nuesence to quickly and tired me out. Comfort is not to be sacrificed for saftey. Well for the most part I'm sure there is a compromize.
Thank you's to everyone who post's here. You all are way more help than I'm sure you will ever feel.
With kind regards, Jason

Ps. Is there spell check here somewhere?

We made the same mistake. Even tho' MalibuTwo tipped everyone off that the owner was unpleasant (she was)

It was really grim, filthy and crawling with bugs.  :tard:

Anyways; I'm not clear; when was this? WTG on the Verm, that's what I was there for but I drew a blank.

SteveS; nice meeting you as well.

Sept 20th...
I was there a day early.
I got up from the creepy room with partial shades and the old guy who actually owns the place sneaking around my room around 3am when my Very protective Boxer "TCHUK" ran out the front door we left open to hear the waves and pinned him with some very aggresive displays. We desided to slowly pack up our stuff early and depart before I did something wrong. So when I showed early @ 6am No-one I could Identify as NCKA was there. Later I passed by a colorful crowd in and around the cove on my way to HOG ISLAND OYSTER CO. I kinda cut out early to check out a whole bunch of possible places for me to go. I ultimatly ended up in Santa Cruz to late to meet anyone.
