Drove up to roseville to purchase a brand new yellow prowler 15 angler. Got it for 599 plus tax and that included the seat. I am very excited to try it out and compare it to my old t140. Jeff

Not sure about the t140, but the p15 is a smooth ride!

Nice score Jeff! You'll love the p15. I was up in Orangevale getting a tandem myself today.

Jeff-

You're going to love the P15. I've never paddle the T140 but I swear by the P15. It's a nice boat and it looks like you got it for a nice price. Have fun...

Hey... are you still putting the hurt on those bass in the Delta?

Freddie

Hey Jeff,

Congrats on the P15, and what a sweet deal :thumleft: Is it the angler model or are you going to install the rod holders yourself? I too paddle the P15, great kayak. Good luck on your maiden voyage :smt002

Hi Guys, New here and newbie kayak fisherman myself (but have a many years experience with a canoe and 3 years with kayaks). I too bought a new P15 (angler) at Sport Chalet for $599. After test paddling the Tarpon 140, Tarpon 160, X-13, and P15...the best overall feel for speed and stability was the Prowler 15. I'm a big fan (and decent sized at 6-2/215) of Ocean Kayaks as I had the Scrambler Xt and Prowler 13. The P13 is a fantastic kayak, but my primary use (about 75%) is touring on the ocean and I wanted all the length I could get for big ocean swells of 8-10'...kind of scary, but fun. The P13 cockpit is a little larger and if over 35-36" pant length..try before you buy as the cockpit of the P15 is slightly smaller but fits me fine with my 33" inseam. Speed between the two is too close to measure for me...probably a gps would give accurate numbers.

I was all set to go with a Tarpon 140 or 160, but after a test paddle...I did not care for the seat or layout...maybe I'm too used to the OK's layout which I love. THe weight of the Tarpons was greater too and that T160 is damn heavy to lift on my car rack. It was very slightly faster than the P15, but felt like it had a little less stability...your mileage may vary. Oh, and the X-13 I did not care for at all..seemed slowest of the bunch and did not care for the low front bow...I could imagine waves coming over it more than the others. Again, real use on rough water is a true measure of performance and not my "thumbnail" test.

Love this site and look forward to learning all I can from you seasoned fisherman. Thanks!

Welcome Jim - assuming that's your name!  Great group of gentlemen here that are willing to help.  There is an event coming up, BAM, that would be a great chance to meet many names and faces.  Hope you can make it out.

Thanks Michael. What is BAM? Assuming a kayak symposium?

Lots of info can be found here.  A symposium of sorts, I suppose.  If you decide to attend, which I highly recommend, you'll need to get on it as the fees and paperwork are due 9/30.

I've been having to talk myself out of getting a sport chalet special also.....6 bills is a killer deal.  I think I might justify buying it cause I got a $10 off coupon the other day.  :smt001
