It was the medium 7'6" one. Actually broke in at least 3 pieces of which only the butt end and tip didn't sink. The tip hit me in the face and then fell in my lap. The other piece/pieces were gone when I opened my eyes back up after the snap. Was holding it with both hands trying to free up a snag and it was bent over, but I didn't think it would bust at the point that it did. That graphite doen't seem to be as strong as fiberglass but it was more sensitive and lightweight. Don't know what I'm going to get next? Maybe the 7'0" fiberglass one that they make. I like the built in flotation and the guides seemed quality. It was an expensive weekend as my dirtbike also died on me. Gotta pay to play boys!   jim/redyak

I broke a brand-new Trevala rod. Will ask Shimano if they will replace it. If not, I'll get another Baidarka.

About a month ago I broke my new Trevala on its first outing.

I took it back to  Outdoor Proshop where I bought it and they shipped it back to Shimano for warranty repair.  They told me that it could be as much as 12 weeks to get it back :smt010, but I just got a call a few days ago that it was ready to be picked up. :smt001

At the time I was impatient and didn't want to wait 12 weeks to get it back, so I bought a Baidarka on my way out.

I had mine double over at the MBK tourney as I was snagged and it held up quite well.  I was very impressed.  After going with the yo-yo technique and getting no where, I applied as much pressure as possible to try and bring up whatever I was snagged on.  No dice.  Had to cut it.

It was pretty funny though because there were a couple of yakers looking on, probably thinking I was an idiot, waiting for my rod to snap in my face.

Note to self, don't ever pull this stunt again as it may blow up in my face next time.  Thanks for the heads up Jim, sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation.  Hope it is resolved peacefully and promptly.

Michael

Did they repair or simply replace it? If the rod broke, how would you repair it and regain confidence in a broken rod?

Although I haven't seen it yet, they must have replaced it.  I'll follow up on Friday after I pick it up.

Thanks,

Jason

I brought it down to the Outdoor Pro Shop in Rohnert Park today and they just exchanged the broken one for a brand new one and I paid $10.50 for them to ship the broken one back to Okuma. I am very happy. Thank you Outdoor Pro Shop!  I also opted to try the 7'0" model this time as the medium 7'6" was a little too heavy for rockies. This one was $20.00 cheaper than the first one so I used the difference to pay for the shipping and buy more diamond jigs, etc. Will definitely continue to exercise caution when snagged on the bottom and attempting to free up. Stoked to be back in business. Thanks again to the Pro Shop!    :smt001   jim/redyak

FYI-the 7'0" is glass with a carbon wrapped butte.  This combo is relatively bombproof, but heavier.  I pulled a bonita through the kelp (because I was hoping it was a WSB) for over an hour at San Clemente with a 701M.  It was getting downright abused and it never flinched. In my experience, you would have to do something horrible to hurt the 701M
