Advice and hookups this weekend (08/15-18) on the Mendo Coast

Some friends have booked a vacation rental this weekend at, yep, Elk.

So M’Lady and I are headed up there with the yaks. If anyone else will be around t’would be great to hookup and fish. 

I have one small question for any folks in the know; which of the spots up there is the most protected from the elements? I know there’s loads (Elk, Albion, Van Damme, Point Arena, Caspar) and some look like protected coves. I was just hoping for any hands-on info in case the weather turns ugly.

All suggestions and advice gratefully received.

NB~ Elk has a good protection factor, refering to the surf launch entry and return. If it's a big swell, the large mountain sized rocks break up the surf lines, making the beach nice and easy(most northern area of beach)
The swell size will be there on the outside(deeper water/better fishing structure), but a least you won't have to deal with large crashing surf. The hill up and down is not that bad.....as long as you know its there. I don't have any experience at the other spots you mentioned.

Thank you Sir. I've fished the beach there a couple of times and the surf has always been calm. I think that's our best bet.
