I live up in Forest lakes in Felton, and for some time there has been construction work going on at an intersection just off the main road into Forest lakes.  Me & the wife didn't know what or why there was so much work going on there.  Turns out that 2 creeks converge at that intersection, Gold Gulch and one other (I don't know it name) my property boarders Gold Gulch further up stream, so we were happy to hear what the reason was for the all the fuss.
According to one residentlocated at the site, he says that Gold Gulch is one of the more important steelhead hatcheries that feed into the San Lorenzo river.
the work going will replace a failing metal culvert with a concrete dome, leaving the bottom open, to restore proper water flow.
Around 30 steelhead were counted downstream of the work area!
Just got a call to go. will continue this later

Awesome!  In the past couple of decades and especially the more recent last few years there have been many such projects up here for steelhead and salmon on small streams that once supported significant runs.  The results have been excellent and have occured quickly.  Hopefully you'll be reporting back on spawners on your property this coming Winter.

Here's a neat article I saw in the Merc the other day while I was waiting for my Vietnamese sandwiches to be ready.

Very awesome story right there, Pete.  If we could get people competing to be stewards of our creeks and wetlands on the level of this guy's enthusiasm we'd all benefit so much.  I love to see the shift toward that kind of thinking.
