For those of you who didn't get the AOTY Hawg Trough and wanna do a simple cheap version, here's one option. Our resident DIY man at NWKA, Fishesfromtupperware, came up with his take on it dubbed the "Ghetto trough". Thought I'd share w/ the NorCal bretherin.

Z

Here's his post from NWKA:

My rod shipping/bait tube is 4" hdpe sewer pipe (same stuff the boat is made of.)

I cut a strip out of the pipe about 3 1/2" wide. Then flexed it back and forth over backwards to flatten it out. Warming it by placing it in a  black garbage bag in the sun makes its much more malleable. I'd cut it wider if I did it again.

Bend the last 4" or so forward flat against what used to be the inside of the pipe.

Spray contact cement on a cheap dress makers tape measure and stick it on after it dries a
bit.   Voilą!

It stores folded flat held with a velcro strap. This one is nice because its indestructible and breakage was a complaint in the reviews of the Hawg Trough.

Sweet work by the tupperwaredude - and thanks for sharing it here, Bryce.

I found an old, weathered piece of 1x8 on the beach about 50" long that I've got my eye on for an "Abking Version" of the trough...  stay tuned for that.

Great idea, thanks for sharing that.

My next project...  Maybe yacht varnish over the measuring tape?

Yes.... Great idea!  I like the fact that you can customize the length.  It would be cool to make one that was retractable or hinged to fold to a more portable size.  Hmmm... I just might experiment with that idea when I get a chance.

A big THANK YOU for sharing!
