Hooked up with Ramon (Kayakito) for my last trip to Limekiln for the year. Hooked up with our Utah NCKA bro's Ed and Allen and headed out to the cap. Moderate south wind and NW swell which switched later in the morning to a NW wind. Fishing was much slower at the mid-section of the cap but still scratched out 3 verms and 4 jumbo olives from 8AM-noon. The largest olive was over 20 inches and had the attitude of a SMB. Etienne has told me about giant olives he has caught but I had never caught or seen one until yesterday.  Most of the fish were caught on a green thrasher with kalin single tail glow teaser. Did catch an olive on a butterfly jig and another on a knife jig. Caught a 5" gopher on a 7" knife jig with 6/O stinger hooks, go figure :smt011. Allen hooked a monster verm (27" 10#) about 1/4 mile north of the cap on a hex bar. Pretty clean launches and landings with no garage sale or yak carnage. All in all a great day but bitter-sweet because I won't be back till next year.  :smt010

Ramon - Thanks for driving and the stop at Mi Pueblo for the masa. The fresh tortillas were awesome with my Rockfish Zarandeado which I posted in the recipe section. It should work well with your rockfish steaks. If you make improvements on the recipe, let me know. It was great meeting your wife. Hope she wasn't too mad about our late return. Let's hookup soon.  :smt006

For those fishing Limekiln and entering before 8 AM, the ranger asked me to tell you that he would like us to call in advance ((831) 667-2403) and let him know you will be arriving early and where you will be heading. When you arrive, park in the day use area and be quite because people camp in the area right next to the beach. He was really cool about it and a great guy. If you can spare a fish, give one to the ranger who lives in the trailer. He is a yak angler and a great guy also.

Hey Scott, you are a good man, I really enjoy fishing with you.
Thanks for that picture, that is my first picture on the water.
Nice.. :smt001
We definitely gotta do it again. that was not bad at all. I kept 4 median zise reds and a median brown. I paddled to the spot where I usually get fish but they weren't hungry, was slow, the fish finder was marking fish all over but not good bites, some times was small fish and some times smaller :smt003 really small gophers :smt005 Man,, these little guys must be cousins of piranhas :smt005 it's amazing how these little guys try to eat something bigger then their own size.

Overall, was good, even though I had problems with my reel. I was using a bait casting reel for the first time and I didn't know that you are supposed to put your thumb on the reel to prevent the line from running, so that gave me hard time but is all good, I got plenty
fish in the freezer now. Some times I truly depend more in my luck
than my fishing knowledge and skills  :smt003 We had fun, mission completed.

Allan, Ed was nice to meet you. don't forget about us on your next trip to California.

This is it for today, now I have to go and prepare a nice hot thick
salsa with a cabage salad and some frijoles to make some killer
tacos. wow... I'm hungry now... got to go..

Glad the boys at the camp made it out. They had been waiting for several days for the conditions to improve. Scott sorry to hear last trip to LK for the year. Ramon please post a picture of the rockfish steaks. What receipe do you use them in?

My understanding is that he scales and guts the fish then puts it in the freezer. When frozen, he uses a hacksaw to cut it into steaks which he pan sears and serves with home made salsa. Sounded interesting so I am going to give it a try.

Hey Guys.. the vermilion tacos I made yesterday came out delicious...

Like Scott said  I scaled and gut the fish then I put it in the freezer. When frozen, I use a hacksaw to cut it into steaks like salmon type of thing,,,,then I deep fry them with Lemon Pepper on both sides of the meat. At this point I already have two salsas going a hot/fire one made with toasted Chile DE Arbol, toasted tomato, fresh garlic, and fresh onion, salt.
My second salsa is made of  boiled tomato with oregano and salt, this salsa is good for those who don't like it hot or just like it because makes the taco juicey. I like to use lots of fresh vegetables in my tacos, I usually make a salad of red cabage, tomato, onions, and lemon but if I'm feeling like chopping all those veggies ,I just use fresh lettuce as the salad and of course your favorite drink. :beer3

Serve the tacos as the fish come out of the pan for best.
or make a plate and serve it with rice and salad. the best
part of cutting my fish like this I can grill it or fry it with no waste
when the fish is cronchie I like to eat the whole thing.

Here is some pictures of weekend cooking, cooking the fish
I caught.....wow.... I'm proud of me..
  Enjoy.

also a picture of eat me taco;

That is awesome I love the hacksaw. I saved some of mine whole in the freezer and will have to try that. Typically I butterfly the whole fish from head to tail and grill it, broil it or poach it. This is because it tastes really good and I hate to waste anything. Thanks for the photos and the ideas!

Oh my G-- that looks delicious. Ramon we have to make a trip to Big Sur. You need to stop by and make some salsa and cut up some fish. I know a spot you would love.
