This is very late to bring up, but if anyone is bored tomorrow (Saturday), there is a fishing line clean-up of the posts at the Pacifica Pier. The idea is to get rid of line, hooks, etc. that may entangle wildlife. To scuba you have to be Scientific Diver certified; I will be freediving. Anyone who participates gets lunch (whoo-hoo!). Just to be clear, I'm not sure it will definitely happen as conditions are not ideal now (like this past week), and I don't think the UC Davis sponsors are aware of how calm it needs to be to safely dive this area. The contact # for the organizer (Jennifer Renzullo) is 707-483-8480 if you want to find out if it's cancelled or a go.

Thanks,

Rich Shafer

Pacifica Pier Clean Up 2008

Dear volunteers thank you for joining us at this clean up event! The Pacifica Pier is a highly fished pier and is known for having robust sealife. With your help, we will clean as much fishing line, hooks, and lead weights from the pier pilons as we can to help keep this pier safe for wildlife and people. If you would like to learn more about this pier please check out this site compliments of Boyd Grant www.pierfishing.com/pier_of_the_month/pacifica.html.

Directions to the Pier: Take Highway 1 to Pacifica, take the Paloma Avenue - Francisco Boulevard exit, take Paloma west to Beach Road, turn left and follow the road to the pier. Parking is free on nearby streets. Once we meet, we can decide the best way to stage gear-most likely from 1-2 vehicles.

9am: Meet at the base of the pier

9-10am: Introductions; Discuss methods and plan for day.

10-1pm: Search for and recover entanglements and other debris from pier!

1-2pm: lunch will be provided

2-4pm: Collect as much fishing line, hooks and lead weights as we can!

4-4:30pm: Clean up and rinse gear!

Thank you for all your help! We couldn’t do this without you!!!
