I've been looking at that bad boy... I'll be eagerly awaiting your review of it... looks like the perfect camera from my perspective.

Just don't lose it...

I have the old version and it is awesome, my co-worker has the new one and it is better all around.  Bigger screen, smaller camera, and more waterproof.  I hook the lanyard to my pfd and keep it in my pocket so its always ready.  I took it down Cache Cr. on a whitewater class last week and it got pounded, and its still going!

I just got an Olympus Stylus. They make a waterproof housing for it, but it wasnt cheap- 140.00. It says you can go down to 100' with it. Which Im not planning on doing, on purpose anyway. Anyway I am most eager to try it out. I had been looking at that Pentax too.

Alan -

That camera has a great macro function and can take pics at about as close as you can hold it to the subject, like 1/4 inch.

The pics on the "Pedro Point salmon Aug 10" post were taken with it. There's a bit of a lag at 5 megapixels but at 3 megs it's quicker. The only other problem I've noticed is that in sport mode you can still seem to get some blurring, but the shots I took that day were in pretty bouncy conditions and still turned out okay.

I might have some more reel work for you and if I do I'll bring it along.

I had 4 uniden JIS 7 person to person radios. 3 of them shorted out when our kayak decks got swamped. They were supposed to be safe at 3 feet for 30 minutes, yet they failed at 5 '' for 5 seconds. Uniden replaced them.
I would keep your cam in a small dry bag, at the very least a baggie, just to be on the safe side.

I think those waterproof standards are for freshwater, which doesn't short out components and corrode things so badly.  YMMV, but if the manufacturer will cover it under warranty, don't worry about it.

Mine's been getting put to the saltwater test and so far so good. I've had it in pretty rough conditions so it's wet alot. I think if it got submersed I'd give it the rinse with my drinking h2o. It seems unlikely that they would've made this only with fresh water in mind.

I'm more worried about scratching the lense or viewfinder than anything. I carry it in a neoprene case stuffed under the top of my wetsuit with a longer lanyard hanging out.
