Haven't worked out all the details so stand by for those experienced enough to take on a new challenge. Will be launching from S.F. early with what looks like favorable tides. Will also be listing our float plan on line with an exit time so if their is a volunteer to take the info then post that we are okay please chime in. Will also be paying attention to the winds which is our primary concern.

The stripers and Hali. are really hitting off the island so Duane and I will give it a go....

Thanks Frank

Frank- I've done a lot of kayaking around "The Rock" and Angel Island, not much fishing though. One thing I would say is when looking at tides in the Bay for that area, you need to look at the current tables also, which are on a completely different time schedule. The Southern edge of Alacatraz is a mean Tide rip on the Ebb. Your only real chance of holding ground long enough to get a decent drop will be to rotate in the current shadow (eddy) around the island staying close to shore. There is also some pretty intense ferry activity in the area and the wakes from those things can swamp an SOT. Keep your mike keyed to 16 and talk to the captains, let em know where you're at. There is an area on the western side that has a mini sea cave and is usually a big protected eddy. Have fun stay safe take some pics

Swellrider, Will really be on the alert for the big wakes and will have my head on the swival. Likely more stiper fishing with slack tide at 0738 hrs, maybe our only oppurtunity for some Hali's.

The main bay is pretty peaceful in the mornings when there isn't any wind and water traffic is still slow. I agree with previous statements, watch out for the ferry/cargo ship/CG/barge wake and you'll be cool.  Never assume they'll change course either, if they're bearing down on you don't hesitate to get outta the way or cut off a fish.  Good luck gentlemen.

If the Ferrys are too much of a problem try fishing Saturday morning.  The shipping lane between Aquatic Park and Alcatraz will be closed for the 16th annual ALCATRAZ SHARKFEST SWIM.  I'd consider joining you except I already signed up as a kayak escort for the swimmers.
