Took a day off work on Friday to make a long drive north to the abalone grounds.

My friends at NOAA couldn't have been more wrong. :smt013  The wind was A LOT stronger than forecast.  Judging by the pics from Sat at Fort Ross, they were off by a day.  I guess I should have known better, given it was Friday the 13th.

Tried to fish, but that was pretty uneventful.  Gave it up and went spearfishing, which was a little more productive.

Getting tired, we switched to abalone and urchin.  After that, the fun began.  Paddling against the wind was a tough workout.  Finally, we made it back to the launch.

I expected to get pummelled on the beach by the breakers, but miraculously, I landed in tact.
I know this post is worthless w/o pics, but just use your imagination.  A cooler of RF to 20.5", 6 avg abs, and 10 urchin.

Amadeo,
I'm waiting for your recent WSB report.............  Congrats!!!!

Jack,
So Ft Ross was decent on Friday?  DANG!!!!!  We checked out the saltpoint hotline ( http://saltpointoceanconditions.com/ ) and the viz wasn't that good.  3-5ft if I recall correctly.  That's what ultimately sent us further north.

BTW, we were just south of Fort Bragg.  Doing it over again, I would have stayed in Sonoma Cty, saving gas and time.

Oh well, live and learn.

Cheers,
Stuart

Sounds like a successful trip even if it wasn't all that you'd expected.   Maybe you should've gone a bit north of Fort Bragg.  :smt001

Stuart.

If you wanna give fort ross a shot let me know, I live 30 minutes way and have plenty room for you to pitch a tent.... no pun intended.

I stopped by your place on my way up Friday to see if you or Naoaki wanted to fish Saturday but no one was home. It was around 8pm.
