Got on the water about 6 AM; paddled straight out past the big point and started fishing. Never marked much bait on my new electronics array, but the birds were diving. Lost 2 smaller salmon, got my bait bit a few other times, and came in at 10:30 with one 7# and one 14#. Herring bait on an FBR; one with a deep six and one at 55 pulls with a 10oz. ball. Briefly hit 100' depth (out there).

In the vicinity of the big point only out further; up to a mile past maybe.

Nice work guys! A limit is a limit and 14# is nothing to sneeze at.

Great Job!  You have the hot stick in a season that has been nothing short of crappy.  Way to go.  I spoke a guy who's name I forgot on the way home today (sorry) and he paddled out past Pedro and caught 3 or 4 shakers, lots of small fish this year.  Not sure why.  Hopefully if weather permits I will get out one more time this week and give salmon a shot.

Actually, by my reckoning, the last 2 big local inshore salmon years were last year and 4 years ago. This year seems normal or better than normal to me (though Ive been doing more fishing and less diving this year too).
If you go, I suggest going out a ways.

I remember last year and 2000 as good years...in '99 I went out in a float tube and caught two salmon at Pedro, but that was it...2001 and 2003 - zilch, and 2002, I caught two at Linda Mar (one at 25lbs)...
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...
