I have an outstanding chore list I've been wanting to take care of to get my boat(power) dialed in before I start pounding the water again.  Sunday I decided it'd be a good day to make sense of the birds nest some might mistake as wiring behind the helm.  Easy enough...boater's world...a snazzy new fuse block, an electrical kit full of terminal ends and shrink tube.....piece of cake.   :violent1: Well, I'm in the store and pick up the stuff I need in short order......then I venture into the fishing section and look at all the cool tackle that I don't need then over to the electronics section. :violent1:  Garmin is blowing out their older models and I start thinking about replacing my outdated stuff.....hmmm.....on sale.....I'd be able to scratch one more thing off my list of needs.....and installation shouldn't be too bad since I'm already working on the wiring....I'd be dumb if I didn't buy it now  :smt001  :violent1:  I get home and call my old man so he can come over to help me.....no answer...I think he pretty much has life mastered cause he's never around when its maintenance time but he's always first in line when it comes time to fish..... So I disconnect my batteries and start eyeballin them....not old but about time for replacement....good idea, while I'm at it I can reroute those back to the cuddy storage area so I can run a bigger cranking battery and deep cycle (not enough space in current location). Anyway I get down in the cuddy which heated to a nice 100* and pop off the panel to access the wiring just to get a good look at what I'm about to take on..... :smt010....cut zip ties here.....snip there....untangle that....remove old GPS and FF wiring harnesses....crap, the opening isn't big enough to squeeze the fittings off....hack em off... what the hell is this wire....crap that's a whole other terminal block floating around in the middle of the wire ball....damnit, every switch in my panel is attached to it....wow, now I think I need the 12 terminal block instead of just the 6.....wonder if they make a 20.  Get all old unnecessary wires out and start to figure I should wire up a third bilge pump just in case. Finish that mess for the time being and get to work removing the old airmar transducer....that beast cost me another 2 hours and the dissasembly of another quarter of my boat.  Go to the transom and start to install the new ducer and another road block...old ducer cleared the back trailer bunk just fine but new one doesn't....crap!....well at least I can route the wires back up in the hull and re-seal the clamshell.....crap! there's still a bunch of old silicone blocking the plug from going all the way through....half hour knocking that out...reroute ducer cable....damnit out of zip ties....the old man finally calls me back and says he beat the snot out of the bass again at the delta, biggest went 6 but over a dozen others in the 2-3 lb range. I told him thanks for rubbing it in.....he tells me thanks for working on the boat and asks if I can install a stereo also.....also asks when I'll have it done so we can hit HMB :violent1:  Called it a day around nine pm.
Today I get to finish installing the GPS antennae and finish off the ducer. Then I can get back to the block behind the helm.  :smt001

Moral of the story....go out to your garage and give your yak a hug....she deserves it  :smt002

Yet another reason why I refuse to own a PB.
I have to ask myself how many times I would go out in a PB vs. my kayak. MAYBE two or three times a year in a PB compared to the dozens and dozens of times on the kayak.
Throw in all the headaches you just mentioned and for the 2 or 3 times a year I might use a PB it is just  not worth it  to me.
Just my .02.
Besides, there are plenty of PB owners who are always looking for a buddy to share gas costs. :smt023  :fishing2  :smt002

Lol...its a labor of love but its the only way to get my family or a group of friends on the water for fishing or skiing.  Lotta work but worth it in the end.

Well, I'm certainly not interested in one as long as the salmon are FUBAR.  It would be nice to be able to bring the wife and kids out on the water though.

I let a co-worker store his ski-boat in my yard, so I can tag along for sturgeon fishing and other lake/bay stuff.

I had a PB in the past.  Now that I could actually afford it, prefer the kayak.  The saying is true for me:

We hit Lake Oraville last week in a freinds 27 ft pontoon boat with 6 adults and 3 kids, epic day on the water, lots of room, like a big family room. I would love a smaller one.

No powerboat.  The yak makes things so much simpler, and it has its own mystique - look how cool the yak community is.  I would want a PB if I were sickeningly wealthy, but I'd be strapping yaks to it.   :smt003
