I have mixed feelings about that report.

One hand... awesome.. that was a great report, and I like the way you set it up with the smaller photos. Good read.

On the other... I have been hitting the same spots for the last three trips and got skunked every time.

I'm a newby, so I gotta keep putting in my time, I'll get hooked up soon I am sure.

Never had a bad day on the water yet, glorious time and great company, just no fish.

Hope to see ya on the water sometime.

Stoggie

JM: I tried at first with jigs along the kelp bed, but grew pretty bored with it after an hour, and no fish.  So then I decided to do the drift/troll the chovies (and briefly whole squid).  I'm still new enough that I don't have a particular style, so I try and cover all bases  :smt003

nothing hit the squid? all I ever get on squid myself is kingfish. I have done well with frozen herring and anchovies live or frozen.

heard there are real live honest to goodness squid swimming around there right now, thought maybe the frozen variety might work better maybe but sounds like that did not work for you?

stoggie, maybe it's time to try some different lure/bait combos? how about drifting the frozen anchovy?

That's definitely a great day of fishing especially this early in the season...  WTG Al!  Nice layout of the photos and report too.  I have never fished Capitola but it sure makes me wanna give it a shot, particularly when "other areas" (ahem) are less than inviting...  I am inspired!

I saw your picture on the Capitola pier web site first and then went on to find this report. I really enjoyed the blow to blow description of the day. Way to go on putting in your time until the big pay off on the last drift. I can't wait until I can get out and put in some time for flatties.  :smt004

Hahahaha, yeah :)  I have been driving 17 my entire life.  And dissipating turns by crossing lanes helps my poor old shocks not lean so much...

I have mixed feelings about that report.
I have been hitting the same spots for the last three trips and got skunked every time.
I'm a newby, so I gotta keep putting in my time, I'll get hooked up soon I am sure.
Its all about putting in your time man...  I went 6 times to SC catching nutting but some infested RF and bait, till I caught my 20# hali.  I dont even know what im doing, so I just keep trying and sometimes it pays off, most times it dont.  But hey, I just love even being out there!

That was the fastest drive over 17 ever  :smt005.
:smt005  It would have been real time, if I was on my motorcycle :)

maybe have to start calling you a BUTT magnet!  Congrats on the elusive Crapitola fish!
Ummmm....  OK?  but I already got a spanking!

DIDhePINCHtheTAILtoo?  :smt037
No, but im wondering why the tail was all scrapped up.  Maybe some ling took a pounce on that guys tail?

I'm speechless :smt002 So here goes..... :spank  Great job!!
  No dinner first?  :smt044

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the feedback, and I will look forward to more epic days of fishing, and refine my reporting skills further!  :smt003

Oh, and the song is by Bubba Sparxx - Album Deliverance - Song Deliverance.  Didn't really like most his other music, but if you want a copy of that song, pm me!
