The launch was not too bad in the AM but the wind was simply not cooperating....

Cafe Craig on his scupper pro and in control. He managed to survive some good breakers just outside the cove. Impressive work  :smt007

John, I was one of the few that decided to skip the fishing and headed to plan E: Breakfast  :smt003 So, I don't know how the surf re-entry was like AND more importantly, the fishing......sorry for the teaser report but I'm sure the others will post as soon as they get their feet dry :smt002

Glad I decided to sleep in, I was worried when I went outside and saw the wind was calm here.

Why would anyone launch in that crap?!?!? It is not like you can even fish effectively in those conditions, hope everyone made it back OK.

I'm glad I switched up to Plan B. Had a pretty good day out there today... no rockfish but I got a smallish... I mean real smallish halibut. Opted for the Bay today. Great call...

It looks doable to me.  :smt005 Actually, that inside outside break would have made for a tough landing.  :smt011

I respect hardcore guys who decided to launch and fish at today's condition.  Hope they got a good fishing day. They worked hard and earned good fishing.

It was somewhat windy. Surf is 3-5ft, not terribly bad. Wind was non-stop blowing. I decided to bail, so do a few other folks. It is the 1st time to drive to the ocean and give up trying. The urge to fish at today's condition was not high on me.

A wise man is in touch with that kind of reasoning and self-control.  To those who went for it, good on you.  To those who opted not to, good on you as well.  I've driven over the hill and aborted plenty of times.   :smt001

A smart call.  Always better to be on shore wishing you were out fishing than being out fishing wishing you were on shore  :smt003 .

I guess you guys were a day a late and a dollar short so to speak.  Conditions on the ocean were so nice yesterday.   :smt009

I guess about five of us went out but not for too long.  There were good swells and constant wind.

Bill, all I can say is after kayaking Quarry Lakes all year I was eager to get back to "real" fishing.  It wasn't as bad as some of the pics would seem to indicate. Although it was uncomfortable I think we all would have stayed out longer if the fish were biting.  I've caught fish there when it was worse.

Good to meet some new folks and see the old crew.

Oh, no rattle...  next batch!

Eric B is spot on...  The water itself was not bad, except for the tightness of swell periods.  The worst waves just make for the best photo ops really.  Mooch, nice pics as always, and thanks!    First time on the yak in 7 months, and my arms just need to remember what to do, or I mighta been ahead of those before they broke.  But this is why I was locked on to getting a Scupper Pro, so I can deal with that kinda surf (e.g. I will tell my yak you gave it props, Mooch!).

The wind, on the other hand, sucked.  I woke up with the buoys at 25 kts and just about went back to bed at 5am, but wundergroud had calm and 6 mph til' 11am showing, so I changed my mind.    But the buoys were more accurate today.  A 1.5-2mph drift makes it hard to stay on (or find) anything, and I found out at launch that my FF needs some wiring redone below, so that was somewhat crippling.  The 1st day jitters, lack of sonar, and random big sets kept me off the usual productive reefs I have marked on GPS.

However it was awesome seeing everyone again and meeting some for the first time.

I think we were 0-for-8 today, though?  And all off the water by 9am?

I got one nibble for about 1 hour of fishing, an hour of iron, few mins. on shad swimbait, both squid tipped... didn't hear of anyone getting a significant bite, but some may have.  But a lot of smiles and uneventful landings and good company following made up for it!

So uhm, yeah, I guess the halis are all in the bay this year and not at the bean!   :smt001   (Freddie's dialed in to those, as always...)

Hopefully next time it'll be better and everyone will do more catchin and less fishin!
