Fly Newbie Update!

I cast a few rods/reels, and what I really liked was the sage launch, the lowest cost rod sage makes.  A little pricy, @ $200.00, and the Redington SV reel @ $100.00.  Looked around and found the reel for $55, and got a deal on flycasting class rods for sale from Am. River Outfitters.  A sage FLi, one step above the launch, for $100.00! And, it's in really good shape!  I can live with the 'demo' written under the gellcoat for that deal!  Got Leland to spool it up with Rio Grand line, and am ready for a lesson.

Anyway, I am going to the GG park casting class on the 12th, and am planning to get up to the mountains as soon as I know a bit more what I'm doing.  Doing lots of reading, and am already dreaming of a heavier rod for stripers!

Thanks for the ideas, guys!

Rick

I've got a class Sage rod also and it is fine. Remember when you get it for a bargain price is that it might have damage and it does not have the Sage lifetime guarantee. Just factor those things into the price.

yeah, I thought about that, but then realised that even if I have to pay for a repair, it's still cheaper than retail.  Also, it's in great shape, and only used for trout.  Pretty sure it's fine.  Thanks for the tip, though.
