Getting ready for an extended trip to baja and trying to make the most out of the "Prowler Box".

One easy thing I did was drill a small hole in the support webbing of the lid and used the bungee that used to be in the tankwell to make a leader holder.  The bungee keeps the spools securely in the recess in the lid. It is crude but works nicely.  No more digging around for the leader material...

Getting those out of the way allowed me to fit my Tackle Logic bag (pages of hooks, swivels, and a small hard case), a gasketed plano of iron and jigs, and a long-range hook assortment box.  There is a TON of tackle that now fits withing ez reach...

The only thing that wasn't fitting were big plugs, so I snuck a few in the lid...

I decided to secure my Plano well as we will be doing a fair amount of surf launching.  I cut down an old MK tankwell strap.  This sucker doesn't budge but is ez to undo and re-secure...

I am totally happy with the way this baja boat is coming together....I can't wait to put it to use!!!!

great idea on the leader holder. I always have to dig for 'em since they settle to the bottom of the box. Baja's looking sweeter every day! :smt002

Seems like you'll be driving down?  Man, that's an adventure in itself.  Can't wait for the report.  If you can, let us know how much a drive down would cost.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be interested in those data.

Safe travels!

Nice looking box, BTW.  I'm gearing up for tahiti and might do likewise.

Hey Sean,

You probably already know about this book but when I made my trip down in 2005 we used a copy of "The Baja Catch" by Neil Kelly and Gene Kira as our guide.  We got ours from the Sonoma County library and by the look of it it had made the trip down several times before.  Anyway, the book is written for people driving down and fishing with small boats (car toppers), so it fits kayak fishing perfectly with details on where to camp and what to expect to catch.   Oh and don't forget to hit up Mag Bay for a change of pass (mangroves, broomtail groupers, bonefish, leatherjackets, corvina, halibut, etc..).

Looking forward to your report(s).
