gearjunkie,

I'll probably just use the Matrix GPS unit. They are less than a C-note, waterproof, no moving parts. I've got a nice terrestrial GPS, but I'm not going to take it anywhere near the salt.

I recently added my Eagle Cuda 240 to my outback, and it works real well.  I can actually see the thermocline while on the water at Loch Lomond (Ben Lomond, was down about 40')  My old Hummingbird parania(?) 3D never has reveled the thermocline, and its trasnducer was installed normally on the transom (in the water)  My cuda is lexal'd to the hull inside.

Have you used the Eagle in Saltwater, yet?  How deep?  Thanks - Kevin

I ended up picking up the Matrix 17.  Turns out the transducer is the same as my PiranhaMax 20 so I don't have to reinstall it.

I had the Eagle Cuda 240 and I felt it sucked for saltwater.  Eagle's website has in their FAQ's a statement about the 240 and saltwater.  They say it is NOT for saltwater.  I gave my Eagle 240i to my friend for free.

Currently I own a Matrix 27, it has more power than the 17.  In my opinion the more power the better in saltwater.   Forget about getting a GPS unit with your FF, I always found that to be a royal pain.  The screen is so small why do you want to spilt the screen with a GPS.  Go with a seperate GPS unit.  Garmin 76SC is what I have and I love it.
