L-K Trip

GentleMan I apologize for my late Addition, I have been pretty sick for the past couple days, as I came down with a brutal head cold.

There is not a whole lot more I can add to everyone's post.  Such an awesome day.  I was very fortunate as to have made it out safely, and back in safely by the skin of my teeth!  "There but for the grace of God Go I "  is how I felt after seeing some of the tough entry's and exits onto that beach.  

The fishing was awesome for me, Hit on My first drop, a nice size red.  I was the under ling master!  Caught three lings @ 11" (seriously 11") 20" 22", while there were some ral fatty's being hauled in.  I was consistently catching fish most of the day on a 7" swim bait with 4 oz head and a berkely gulp 8" squid on 8 oz head.  was mainly ling hunting with the 8/8 combo, no luck but a few large copper's, browns and reds hit that big combo.  could have taken an easy limit, and stopped counting early.  Final Tally for me was1 large brown, 2 large coppers, 2 Large reds, 1 nice olive.  

As you can Imagine from everyone else's post's every one was hooking up very frequently.

What an awesome day!  We have to hit that place again.  It's going to be hard to fish around here knowing 50 minutes up the road.....oh well.

Someone asked about Mill Creek. I usually go out of LK because it is so convenient. On a big swell just getting down to the launch beach would be hazardous, because there's a rock wall you have to get around. Once there you're on a sandy beach. It isn't quite as steep as LK, a little more crumbly, but it can still take you out. Like this:

Nice to meet you. The article by Brendan http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=12 is a nice introduction to the pros and cons of Mill vs Limekiln. I prefer LK because I know where the fish are thanks to JTF. Like most areas, the fish are located in relatively small areas so unless you know those areas, you won't have an epic day. Mill is only a couple of mile south of LK and the launch can be a little easier but the carry is a little worse and I have not fished with anyone who knew were the fish were so I had good days, but not epic days. My dream is to do an overnight trip out of LK and head north to Pt Lopez and beyond for a WSB hunt. Will probably need to hire a guide and unfortunately Brendan has retired.

Like he said, about a mile or so south. It's just down the road from the Kirk Creek campground. You can't actually see the launch from the picnic area - it looks like a jumble of rocks - follow the use trail to the right, down and over the boulders and cobbles.

The fishing zone is downhill, a good couple of miles south (well, the coast here actually runs more east-west I think) in front of Pacific Valley. A prominent wash rock - "Chef's Kitchen" - marks the beginning of the reef zone. Lots of cool structure, but beware the uphill return. Here's the however. If conditions deteriorated, there are suitable bail-out coves right in front of the fishing area, and one could always scoot down to the far side of Sand Dollar Beach (but oh, the carry up!). 

Why Limekiln? Hot showers! Launch from camp. And LP is an amazing place.

Any chance for more tag alongs? I live near John at the harbor. Is there a possible carpool? split those ugly gas costs.

I know exactly where those coves are, don't know where chefs kitchen is but i'm sure i could find it.  You've just given me a challenge.

Also, bail-out coves, to Scott those are just new launch spots !!!  I have an old skateboarding helmet & I'm sure I could scare up some judges for the surf contest after !!!

But seriously, I'm down for checking those out or I'm definitely down for another round @ LK!!!

Well, I do have a double hatch tarpon 160 that could be good for such an adventure and has hardly been used.... hmmmm!

plus a full size 4x4 truck with ladder racks that can carry a serious amount of gear....

when were you thinking of doing this one?

surfline has the sunday waves and wind forecast down.  even a very light south wind on sunday. sunday + monday could be a go weatherwise.

I hope to get out of my silli valli house tonight and be in my SC house tomorrow, possibly to fish with mike tomorrow morning in capitola.

If we are talking overnight guided trip it will take more than til Sunday to plan. But I am interested.  I think we have better chance for good wx later in the season.

This weekend I was planning to fish Carmel/Monterey. The overnight guide trip to Lopez and beyond will probably be in July-August when the conditions are more predictable. I need to talk to PAL and Brendan and research possible landing/camp sites. It is possible to get up there and back in one day but it would be at the limit of my paddling range so that is why I was thinking of a boat in and camp up there. Even though you are paddling downhill on the way back, it is a bad place to run out of gas. I was thinking the week before Elk and we may be able to get PAL to join us on his way up and we could get our story in WON.

Etienne and I always post in hookups and will fish with anyone.    Carpooling is good for sure. BTW, for me the real addiction began at LK. Hope that didn't happen to you.
