Very nice!
I made a similar one last year from the but of a rod blank and some brass washers.  its scary effective  :)
WOW!   :smt007 That truly rocks!!!!  That rod blank stand up to all the smacking?!?  Would really cut down on weight and focus effort on the "business end".

For double hookups:
  AHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Al, you might want to patent that thing.  Call it The Fish Bonker or something.  I can see many uses, and some very tacky advertising in your future:  "Are you tired of that pesky fish who sometimes only pretends that it's dead?..."

Thanks  :) :)

yeah, its nearly 1/2 inch in diameter.  with the cork handle all the shock and vibration are dampened.  The brass weighs 6 oz. and doesn't rust (its also epoxy coated for ease of clean-up).  I tie a leash to the stainless eyebolt in the back to keep it with me  :)

I will mention that a little care is in order, as a missed whack leaves a VERY nasty bruise...

Al, the club is awesome - brutally utilitarian!

I ended up finding one of those basic wooden fish clubs for 3 or 4 bucks somewhere, so I picked it up.
It was cheap & I'm sure it's effective (haven't used it yet) but it lacks a certain, let's say, personality!
One plus, though, is that it floats.

Rock, does yours float or are the washers still too heavy?

I was also wondering if the washers would tear up the fish with a couple good whacks.  :smt075 Sounds like it's not a problem?

BTW, I sometimes do launch near Hunter's Point!
A club or bat is no match for the weapons of choice over there :smt068 but that stuff tends to stay in a fairly concentrated area in the hood.

sure it floats, in mercury....
Mine sinks like a bunch of brass, but a leash keeps it from getting away  :)

Use it in the Almaden Valley reservoirs & you won't even need a leash!  :smt003

Nice!

My advice is to use lots of Loctite.

I like it, but a stainless nylock on the end would make sure it never came apart when you needed it the most, or go with two nuts at the top.  I work on motorcycles as a hobby as well, and try to use good nylock nuts when ever possible.

Here's "The Punisher", the mother of all bonkers designed by Erik "KZreelrods" for use on sturgeon.  Typical fish bats are no match for a dino's armor plated head.

It's made of galvanized pipe so it's easy to make and won't rust easily.

Here's Freddie "Savage" showing "The Punisher" in action (warning: graphic violence)

I made a smaller compact version for other fish.
