Spent both days this weekend on the water with great company, wonderful weather, and everyone was catching fish.  Ben (152 Sumo) and I hooked up both days, and Craig (Tarpon120) joined us on Sunday.

Saturday we caught fish all day long, but bites were tough to get at 1-2 per hour.  Ben and I caught about ten bass total, biggest in the morning was 3 and a half.  All were caught on worms or senkos.  After Ben headed in, I stayed out in the windy afternoon and got a few bites on the senko.  The first fish swam my line sideways a bit and I casually set the hook, then this monstrous bass (well over 8 pounds, maybe over 10??) jumped and spit the hook, the senko practically hit me in the head as it zoomed by.  DARN IT!  Two minutes later I get doinked, and I hammered the hookset on this poor unsuspecting little one pounder...I think I knocked it unconscious!  Ten minutes later I hooked and landed a five pounder.  That was it for Saturday.

Sunday was slow and bites were even further apart.  Ben caught 2 right off the bat.  Then we hit a long dry spell until 10:30 or so when Craig got hot and nailed three in about thirty minutes.  Then things slowed down again.  Ben went in for the day.  I missed a couple bites.

Finally in the afternoon, I got my "senko revenge" fish (I have lost two BIG fish on the senko in the last two weeks, both jumped full airborn leaving haunting images of a DD bass in my head).  After my line never "sank," I set the hook hard and this fish just rips out of the shallow water (less than 2 feet deep) and peels line off my reel like a jet ski.  After several powerful bursts in several directions, drag screaming each 20 yard run, and a couple misses with the net, I finally landed a nine pound nine ounce bass.  Not my double digit, but oh so close.  Her fins were pretty torn up from the spawn (??).  Anyway, after the pictures, weighing, and measuring (25 inches), I released her where I caught her.  After another hour of NADA, Craig and I headed in for the day.

I really enjoyed the company this weekend.  Hope to do it again soon.

Hey Bryan,
What a great day.  I have never seen a bass as big as yours, and I feel very lucky to have been there to see you land it.  As you said the company was great! It was nice to meet you Ben. The weather was perfect, thanks again for introducing me to the delta on my new kayak.  I have to say it again.
What a great day!  :smt006

Thanks all.

Ben and James: NOT the same fish, lol :fishing1

I'll post up another outing soon if anyone wants to give it a try.  Maybe a topwater trip in a few weeks.  I'd also like to try some other spots in the Delta, but for some strange reason, I keep going back to the same slough!

As the old adage goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.  If I'd had your luck, you'd have a hard time dragging me out of there too.

Nice work as usual.

Hey Bryan, I got it man, after reading this.
http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/articles_view.asp?Kayak_Articles=75

It must be your hobbie giving you the upper hand: hands free fishing, hovering around the strike zone and doing multiple casts, etc.... while we drift away as soon as we drop our paddle.

But still, you're the bassmaster as far as I'm concerned :smt003 or is it the delta master...

Yeah man, can't wait for that top-water bite, and the frogs....

Did not see em' doing it (can't see much in the Delta), but I know what they are doing right now...it's a "baby-fish-making-factory" down there.   :smt008
